  • Well one month to go, looking forward to my final payment in early November, and my first one of the offset in December.
Finances will be hit due to paying for a car to be fixed and a few days away in the sun this month. Otherwise, business as usual me thinks :)
Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
September 2016 - Back into clearing a mortgage - Was due to be paid off in 32 years in March 2047 -
April 2018 down to 28.00 months vs 30.04 months at normal payment.
Predicted mortgage clearing 03/2047 - now looking at 02/2045

Aims: 1) To pay off mortgage within 20 years - 2037
  • Just waiting for the mortgage to kick in on Wednesday, then we can see how we're doing. I think we've saved quite hard in the past few months, so once all money is in the right account, I hope we'll be in a healthier position than where we though....

This must be the dullest thread, as nothing's happened for the past few months :)

  • All done - emails from Enact and First Direct today...
The only issue is that my old bank (Halifax) have taken a payment out at the higher rate - once the lower interest rate has finished...
I can only assume it's their mistake, and due to staff not being able to get to work today, I've not been able to contact them.

I am confident in saying that you pay the banks in advance by a month for a mortgage rather than paying them at the end of the month don't you - e.g. mortgage payment made on 1 Dec will be from the 1 Dec - 31 Dec, rather then for the month that has just completed - the 1 Nov - 30 Nov?
If so, that's good as I should be able to get the money back off them and it'll go into lowering the offset by a little more but would like someone to agree with me.

Also every time I log on now, the mortgage amount is sitting there, which will be a focus in getting it as small as possible as fast as possible :)

  • End of December -
    Mortgage to pay: 43k

The offset's great, as I can see the amount we owe burning every time I log on. Hope to make another dent in January- the next update.

  • So my target is to halve the mortgage by the end of this year 2011 -down to 20k. It can be do-able but we have a lot of other factors which could make a huge difference, a number of things are on the way out, we had to pay for a washing machine/fridge (separates, I don't think they've yet invented a combi machine of the 2!), a car's on its way out - (needed for work) and boiler's packing up.

Fortunately, we're a good team in that I get stuff done and the wife has dreams and together we work well!
January is an odds and ends month - insulation being done in the roof, boiler being fixed etc.

Anyway, here's to the next 12 months :)
