If it was me I'd hire the nearest gorgeous chef, claim he was my boyfriend and go on and on about how these days you don't need to lift a finger in the kitchen lol :rotfl:

Seriously though, why on earth do you want to put yourself through this?

A lovely chilli con carne or curry but very hot? :rotfl: Bring out the cooling yoghurt *after* they've taken the first bite. "oooh I forgot to take this out the fridge."

A jug of water with ice and slices of lemon always looks posh to me.

You just need a clean jam jar for hm butter. :p

LondonDiva - you're a better woman than I am! Personally depending on how 'over' it you are I'd slip some laxatives in new girlfriends pudding - but that may just be me :D

I WAS only joking there :D

No seriously, one thing I have found is really nice when you're entertaining and ur having olives and nibbles for starters is get a really nice shallow dish/bowl, put in some really good olive oil and drizzle black treacle on the oil. If you have some really good ciabatta type bread this tastes surprisingly gorgeous and is lovely to dunk and nibble. Try it - I first had it at a REALLY posh restaurant and have done it for all my impressive foodie things ever since

Good luck and knock them both dead! ;)

Thanks for all your ideas in a time of madness guys,

I like the treacle idea, might give it a go.

My aim is to give the impression that I'm doing this very casually, so only main & pud, with decent wine.

Lots of ideas for a full meal in the posts above though :D

I'm stuck between the Eton mess that Smashing suggested or Gingham's fruit & icecream. They're both 'low key and fab tasting'

 for reasons, see Eels100 & lillibet's posts. It's about being adult and 'nice', and to be honest the fact that I'm taking it seriously enough to be thinking about getting flowers in is a surprise:p

The 'big night's' next week & will feedback or panic or whatever as we get closer

I was wondering if I'd missed the big event.

Best of luck. If I was the new girlfriend I'd be quite nervous to be honest, if that helps.

  • Next time you invite people round, realise it was a mistake and then can't cancel, just intersperse some evil grins with manic cackles and mention of serving up 'a nice Chianti'. They'll cancel before you do :)

Hope it all goes well, and that you're wondering what you ever saw in him before dessert's on the table :)
Eek! Someone's stolen my signature!
