Don't worry about woolworths, they came good on the 360 last year...I'm sure they will do the same thing here :)
  • If Argos, Amazon and Toys r Us have all sold their initial allocations, it must mean that:
    • Woolies have had a much bigger allocation than any other retailer- unlikely
    • Woolies have sold significantly less than the others and thus have plenty left - possible
    • Woolies are a bunch of muppets who haven't got a clue what is going on - well, you can draw your own conclusion regarding that

I think getting one prior to Christmas will probably still be on the cards once the launch week is out of the way

I can remember reading that Woolworths' parent company also own a distrobution company for the entertainment market.
This could be why they have such a large allocation, because other retailers buy from this Entertainment Distrobution company, and Woolworths, being owned by the same group, get the biggest allocation.

Edit: I found the company via a short trip through various websites, they are Entertainment UK and:
the UK's leading distributor of entertainment products, generating an annual turnover in excess of £1.1 billion.

The first thing to consider is that why would Woolworths be getting so many consoles? I could be wrong, and they may have some agreement with Nintendo, but surely dedicated computer game/electronic stores would get a larger allocation - the type of stores that have been sold-out of pre-orders for the past month.

The other thing that is worrying is that they dont seem to recognise how limited these consoles will be. They're treating it like it's a load of KitKats and that when/if they sell out, a quick call to the warehouse will bring another crate of them in the morning.

Game shops are the places people go to first, therefore thats why they sell out first, woolies had only preordered 20% of their allocation about 2 weeks back, i thinks, and arent stupid, they know their limits! As jonpeat posted above look at the 360's last year, they did a fine job of them!

CDR1122 is also right about EUK, woolworths own the company who supply their entertainment products, and could have a valid point!
  • Woolies have stopped taking orders now.

Just cancelled my order with woolies - I had selected pick up in store and realised there is noway in hell I can manage to get into town to pick it up before xmas (I go everywhere accompanied by a triple buggy too) and reading the details online it says you have to provide id on pick up etc so couldn't ask my sister to get it, now I emailed woolies about this last week as soon as I realised what I had done, only got a response half an hour ago saying "no sorry we cannot change to home delivery due to data protection" (!!!!!!?!) so I asked them to cancel which they did IMMEDIATELY, literally 5 seconds after I send the message! So thats £300 odd thats going elsewhere....

Thanks for the link but how reliable are they - never heard of them! They operate with a tiscali e-mail address and a mobile phone ??? How can I be sure they will be able to get stock?

I'm actually thinking of gamestation who although saying Dec 8th is a no-go, do state that they will deliver before Christmas - just trying to ring them now but their phone line is constantly engaged

Entertainment UK supply Tesco, WHSmith, Amazon, Morrisons and of course Woolworths themselves. Therefore, as a company they seem to be in one of the better positions to be able to fulfil pre-orders.

They have also taken over Total Home Entertainment (THE) which is another distributor, and actually, at one time was the official importer, distributor and service centre for Nintendo in the UK before Nintendo went back to doing it themselves.
