I'm always looking at price per 100g/1kg personally.
I do that as well but even then you have to be careful.

I saw some frozen chicken in Tesco a while ago

750g for £2.99 (40p/100g according to the SEL)

A few month later - same brand smaller pack

650g for £2.99 (40p/100g according to the SEL)

A few month later - same brand smaller pack

600g for £2.99 (40p/100g according to the SEL)

I thought about mentioning it to CS but given past experience with them decided not to waste my time.

Last week, it was quiet in our store. I was told to dress the yoghurts and chilled deserts such as trifles. I did a better job than my fresh food colleagues as I found a packet of sausages - 8 days ood tucked behind the strawberry mousses. Also found some cheese a couple of days ood stuffed between the Muller Lights.

Love the morrisons reductions section. Piece of meat reduced from 8.99 to 8.79 because it is due to run out that day. Are they actually being serious.:rotfl: The sheer stupidity of some of the pricing cracks me up as well. Recently spotted:

    8 cans of coke 3.50
    12 Cans of coke 2.99

My ex works for Morrisons and this info could be 3 years out of date. Only the dept managers can reduce things by 25%. The normal staff - 15%. 20p off something that's £9 is a p1ss take.

Sainsburys, where I work, I can reduce anything to anything I want - within reason. Default is a third off

we have the same all the time in Iceland. Obviously it isn't up to us what the prices are changed too but it is hilarious. I mean our 4 pint milk is £1.10(was £1) and our 6 pint milk is £2.25! I mean what the hell? 8 pints(2x4) works out cheaper then 6!:rotfl:

We have a similiar offer on the coca-cola too. In fact they're all over the place, but trust me plenty of folks will just buy what they always do, they don't consider two of a smaller pack, might be cheaper then a big one, or vice versa. I'm always looking at price per 100g/1kg personally.

We have 50 blank recordable CDs on a spindle for £6.49 (offer) and the 25 is £7.99 - hmm, which one shall I buy?:rotfl:

I found some carrot batons in Tescos with a sell by date of that day but they refused to reduce them.. so I didnt buy any at all :D

Why do you think they should? Next day maybe, but they have every right to sell it full price on the "Sell by" date.

If staff are funny with you for bringing OOD food to their attention, you could always get your revenge by reporting them to the trading standards people, it's a £5k fine for each OOD perishable item they find, or so my manager tells me (I work for Esso).

Nah its definitely in date, only the other day I was haunting the bargain bucket area and heard what was clearly the butchery manager say to one of the girls, 'take 30p off of that' - when I looked it was a joint of beef :D
  • Last weekend I (unknowingly) bought some out of date Pork pies from Asda that were just on the shelf with the normal goods, and was refunded double the price when I took them back (£1.80 odd).

Then earlier this week I was in Sainsburys & spotted some croissants (£1.99) that were best before the previous day. I bought them, took the rest of the shopping to the car & then took the croissants back to Customer Services & was given a refund, another packet of croissants & a £5 giftcard as a gesture of goodwill

Does anyone know what the other supermarkets policies are regarding ood items and reimbursement/recompense?
  • In the Cco-op the till flashes up when something is OOD, cos I've tried to buy reduced stuff before and when it goes through the till they've said they can't sell it because it went out of date yesterday.

I've noticed on their online groceries the price per 100g or whatever is quite often wrong, which is a bit misleading. Wonder if they do it on purpose?
