Fancy crutches

Sue - I agree with you about the grip on the handles. I've not had sticks for very long but they do have a very good grip and I'd hate to change that.
My wheelchair is grey with red metalwork -quite happy with that................maybe if I just do something red with my sticks and leave the grey handle it'll at least look like they 'belong' (for want of a better expression...........lol)I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

For my brother's wedding, I applied organza, ribbon and small silk roses to my crutch and the same for my new sister in law's mother's stick.
They looked so pretty and only cost me £3 to do the both...and on my crutch has lasted from Christmas eve until now with people still admiring it!
Feel like a change soon though, getting bored of a pretty crutch and quite fancy going back to a hardcore one.

Found the thread through a google search and thought I would recommend a company like the other posts. Didn't notice how old the thread was! Chic Aids are also recommended for cool crutches. I mentioned Inde Aids as I've used them in the past and was very happy.0

I'm wondering about the handle and the rubber foot too. I saw on one web site that customise sticks, they had either changed them or decorated them with something, to make them match the newly painted stick. I really want to do this, I'm about to go decorate a load of my sticks, I have several bog standard grey issue pairs which I am going to spend the day tarting up
I don't want to leave the rubber foot&handle and arm rest thing grey, they won't look right
So after seeing something can be done to them, I want to know how!
I want to know if I can either buy colourful replacements, or if their is some special paint out there to use. Anyone got any ideas?x0 -
zoe - did you get around to customizing your sticks ? I meant to do something to mine then OH was in hospital so my brain was elsewhere.
Now a lad I used to foster had offered to treat me to a pair of patterned ones (I quite like the floral ones on this site www.verko.co.uk but not sure whether they'd be as sturdy as the NHS ones. I want the NHS ones for when I'm in the garden but it would be nice to have a pretty pair when I go out -it's not often but it might do wonders for my self esteem and I'd feel inclined to go out more often.
Has anyone ever had the decorated ones and are they as sturdy as NHS sticks ?I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I e-mailed the glamsticks lady about a cane but it would be £20 plus postage there and back to get a cane to her in the first place as she doesn't buy them herself. Something like that so pretty expensive considering it's only for the decoration of a cane I already have.
I did find that Ambutech sell canes in pink or blue so might buy one of those in the future but for now I'm thinking of just buying some pretty glittery star stickers to decorate my reflective white cane that I was given. Maybe some wraps of sticky back plastic to keep them from peeling off? Or would that just end up getting scruffy too? Maybe spray glue?
Any ideas? The current covering on it is the standard reflective tape on each section (it folds in four).
I've recently been given a second cane now too with a really big white rollerball on the end for grass when camping, looks pretty comical but works perfectly."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
Can I speak on behalf of the GlamSticks lady here as I think there has been some misinformation. She does stock walking canes, walking sticks, crutches, it's just if it is something specialist or something for which there is not much demand then she doesn't have it in stock but is happy to customise anything sent to her if it would be more cost effective to do it that way.0

Misunderstanding not misinformation.
I'm talking about a reflective white cane for the blind not a walking stick."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
ah ok, sorry!0

I think it's a great idea to have a nice walking stick. It's bad enough we have to use them, they might as well look awesome, hey?
I have three sticks from Glamsticks now and love them all. I admit the first time I saw the prices, I thought it was steep, but then I began crafting and making things myself, and realised the sheer cost and time it takes. I have a multicoloured diamante stick, which has about 3000 individual stones stuck on! I must say I admire her patience.
My second stick is gold with fairies and butterflies picked out in pink glitter (my very girly stick!) and finally a silver one with purple swirls on. I was lucky enough to get them all as presents and the quality of them is very high.
Hey, some girls have shoes to match every outfit, my long term plan is to have a stick that does that!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0
