Most supermarkets have more than one checkout, so just avoid him in future if you can't cope with it.

His disability (if he even has one) doesn't allow him to work in a customer facing job - tough luck.

My disability makes it very hard (I come across as rude - I can't physically look straight ahead) to do customer facing jobs - this isn't discrimination.

Get a friend to go the checkout next to the one the guy with 'tourettes' is working on. Get your friend to make a mental note on what he says to customers he's serving.

We have to be helpful, friendly, polite and professional at all times. Clearly this fella didn't do any of these.

    why should they discriminate

It isn't discrimination to not put a member of staff in a job they cannot do.

I am deaf in one ear and therefore would not be able to answer phones unless I was in a quiet environment, if I was unable to serve on a till without insulting a customer, I would not expect to be put on one.

I think that's the stupidest thing i've seen anyone respond to any thread this week. I think you should get this weeks award for not understanding what the thread is about. Congratulations. I hope in your other contributions today you actually spend a few more minutes to actually find out what the thread is about.

On past performance, that seems unlikely, jumping in two-footed without much of a clue seems the hallmark :)
