Not that I'm arguing either way of the suitability of someone with Tourette's working in a customer-facing role... but they wouldn't be medically unfit. He's not ill."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Sounds to me that he does it a lot and the girl on customer services is either fed up of apologising for him, or finds it as amusing as he does and is inventing her own stories as to why he is behaving this way. Maybe it's some sort of joke between them (albeit not very funny for the op, granted) or bet? I suspect that the 'excuse' for his behaviour changes per complaint against him.
Either way, should she be discussing a staff members medical condition with a customer? It aint over til I've done singing....0 -
but as we only ahve the ops side of events none of us know whether or not he does truly have tourettes
Assuming all of what OP quoted is true, it seems very unlikely he does have Tourette's. Obviously can't say for sure, but it all seems very fishy to me. And if he is lying about Tourette's, he's not only lied to his employers and insulted the customers, he's making a mockery of people who actually do suffer from Tourette's. That's worth making a complaint in my opinion, and hopefully someone at head office will listen and take it up. Even if they can't prove whether he has it or not I think it would be fair enough for them to remove him from the tills and put him elsewhere. After all, I think most of us would recognise if someone had verbal tics and ignore it because we know they can't help it, but in OP's case she's not the only person who complained about this man. That suggests to me that the other customers think he's being obnoxious too.0 -
The guy involved needs to have his collar felt by the police - he may well be breaking Section 5 of the Public Order Act. I would write to Sainsburys Head Office describing the incident, the response you got from the management of the store when you complained and the possible
consequences of police involvement if a repeat of the incident occurs."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
You wouldn't hire a blind person to be a bus driver, or a paralysed person to be a roofer, or me to be a sales negotiator. Not everyone can do every job. It's nothing to do with discrimination, he doesn't have the skills for the job.yes and on the way get arrested for being an idiot0

Well if being an idiot is a criminal offence, how come you're not in prison? Do you really think someone would get arrested for spilling potatoes and walking out of a shop?
no but for deliberatly being abusive to a staff member wouldReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
so we should stop blind people from being front of house so to speak or those with limbs missing cause who wants to see that when they go shopping eh regardless of disability he should be givebn the chance to work in whichever role he wishes ok hes a little abrubt with some customers and maybe thats needs curbing
Would you let a blind person work on the till then? Would you allow a blind person to be a paramedic? How about employing a bricklayer with no arms?
His disability (if he even has one) doesn't allow him to work in a customer facing job - tough luck.Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -

why should they discriminate
So you'd be quite happy if you went to the checkout to pay for your Sugar Puffs and ice cream, to have the person on the till say to you "You flucking 4 eyed ugly !!!!!!, and you're a dirty tramp too, that tshirt went out in the 90s"???
Would you smile, pack your things and go on your merry way?
Don't be stupid, of course you wouldn't, so how is it discrimination?
Like someone else said, nobody would employ a blind person for a driving job would they?
Or someone as a lifeguard who can't swim?
If this guy really has tourettes, sitting on a till dealing with the general public is not a job suitable for the condition!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
