Have a read of the information on this site. The person who wrote it works in commercial debt collection and is an excellent advisor to people who are in debt: http://www.kronos.moonfruit.com

(the only advertising appears to be in the 'emergency help' link, I'm not sure what thats about? But the information on the rest of the site is definitely sound and excellent advice).
  • Hi all, thanks once again for your replies.
Goldielocks, thanks for the answers you could give. Bankruptcy is something that scares me more than any other option I have looked at and I want a few real world examples of people who have gone through it as its all very well just reading the hard facts about it in the booklet supplied by the cccs.

I have taken a day off work today to think things through, sort out some paperwork etc and hopefully come to a decision as to what I am going to do.

At the moment I am leaning towards a DMP with the CCCS as I know I can afford this option and I have read so many other peoples posts (and had some helpful private messages - thank you) in similar situations and it seems to be working for them, at least in the short term.

My wife is well aware that things are very tight regardless of the debts I have that she may not be fully in the picture on, but we are going to sit down this week and go through out finances and look to reducing certain bills.

Might see waht she says about cancelling the mortgage ppp or going with another company that I have found to be much cheaper for a better policy. Then we shall look at reducing our buildings and contents insurance, life insurance, food bills and everything else that we pay out on a regular basis and see what we can do.

Still not sleeping, but am beginning to feel like I might actually be able to do this and save my life (don't worry, I mean from the point of view of having one sometime in the distant future) and providing one for my family.

    Kindest regards to you all

So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • You sound a bit better - at least you are taking control and trying to sort yourself out - well done!
  • Hi DD :)

I've only just seen your thread & wanted to give my support as well & wish you well in whatever you decide :)
I have a dmp with cccs & it was due to end in 31 years time but by taking on board all the advice from the lovely people on here it has reduced considerably so my advice would be just to keep posting on here & take in all the info!
If you do decide on the dmp route this link may be of some help in giving you a rough guide of what the acceptable figures are for food, clothes etc for your size of family

It takes a lot of courage to take the first step & start to deal with everything & I wanted to say well done too :)

if you are considering bankruptcy then can i suggest you double-check the terms of your employment contract as i know mine says that i could lose my job if i beome insolvent, or something similar to that and i dont work in an industry where you would have thought it would be a problem!
