Instead of mentioning the Police you could say you were going to take it to higher authority. This could mean anything but she will start thinking it's the police or a solicitor or something like that.saving-mad wrote:Vijay, don't you think talking police is taking it a bit too far, or am i too kind?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I would recommend you making sure that every action you take looks to a third party to be entirely reasonable.
For a start, why not email her to say you are sorry to her that they didn't enjoy their holiday, and that you are struggling to understand what the problem is. You have not had any complaints before, and you'd like to make sure that if there are any issues they are resolved before you let the van again. Ask her to be more detailed about what her complaints are so that you can investigate them.
It's very unlikely, but she MIGHT have a genuine cause for complaint, which I am sure your friend would want to know about. If not, and she can't be more specific or she invents things, then you have more evidence to protect yourself if this goes any further.
You will also demonstrate that you have tried to approach it in a reasonable manner.0 -
paypal are holding the whole of the money she paid until the matter is resolved, i now have a balance of -£135 showing, as they swiped the + balance as well. I esculated it to a full claim this afternoon as paypal recomended sorting it out with the buyer but i know this will not happen now. its now for paypal to diceide who's right.
One last thing, paypal told me on sunday they dont help with intangable items - as they told me this was, so why have they taken my money, is it just a formality before they actually see what was sold and look at the case, or is mis-discribing an item, as she alleges i have done a different sort of claim?Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -

i wrote in the beginning saying how sorry i was, told her to contact the owner etc but she's not interested, she just wants money, and has well and truly spat her dummy out to get it, i have been calm and polite all the way, i have kept all her abrupt and blackmailing e-mails for paypal when they request them.
The caravan has been let all summer, people have booked for next year so it cannot be that bad.Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -
If by any chance they win the paypal claim then you or your friend could perhaps take them to small claims court to get your money back.0

Good idea, maybe a threat of that will do the trick?0 -

You are not anywhere near this sort of action yet, just keep calm and keep talking to PayPal this will probably blow over.
But for intangible items PayPal is not the best method of payment for a seller..as you are now finding out!0 -
Presumably the van was let the weeks either side of the claimants week? If so I would recommend contacting these people and getting them to write a letter supoorting the fact that there was nothing wrong with the caravan.
Be pro-active dont just wait to see what will happen next - my experience of the PayPal dispute process is that PayPal only make a decision at the end of their alloted number of days not at any point in between, and wont contact you until after the decision has been made.0 -
my freind says if paypal think she is due the money she can have it, we think that unlikely, so are happy for them to sort it out, and have hopefully got all the defence we need.(her e-mails, threats, and actions)
Ebay is not the end of the world, i don't make a fortune, i will just lie low for a couple of months after is over.Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -
