I helped out a close freind by letting his static caravan for a week on e-bay, they turned up three days late but told me on their due arrival day they would be arriving the next day, stayed two days and told them every thing was perfect, then vanished.
8 days after they left i have recieved an e-mail saying the caravan un-inhabitable and demanded a full refund.
They won't use the phone to ring the owner as they say its me who let the van.
I personally think they are trying it on as the caravan is fine and usually fully let but i dont want to risk my feedback.
What should i do, they say they have contacted paypal?

I used to let my caravan out on ebay and had no end of problems like this.
Is there any way you can have a look inside the caravan and see if there are any signs of life? If the caravan was uninhabitable why did they stay for 2 nights? I think they are trying it on to get a free holiday. I had this done to me loads of times except none of the people who stayed in my caravan knew that I lived near it and walked past it every day.
I don't know how it will work out if they do a paypal chargeback but as far as I know you have to have returned the goods to get a refund. I might be wrong though.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
sorry if i was uncalear, my mind is racing!!!!
The caravan is on his farm where he saw them frequenty over the two days This was last week, they hired it Saturday to saturday arrived tuesday and left thursday, and never complained once!!Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -
You need to tell this to PayPal. And likely post some pictures up on the web.
This is akin to someone buying tickets through eBay for the Robbie Williams concert, then complaining afterwards that they were 2-hours late and didn't like it.
It's a service. They got what they paid for. Personal feelings and emotions don't enter into it.
It's also a bit like me travelling by bus from London to Edinburgh, then complaining I didn't like the bus or the journey. I got what I paid for.

OK, again I think they should have complained there and then. Am I right in thinking they waited a while before they complained? I think they are out for a free break. I would be surprised if paypal let them have their money back but if they do just put it down to experience. I always asked for my payments in postal order for my caravan and that banished all this.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

They waited until today, 8 days after they left, before complaining
Will they just be able to take money from my paypal? theres only £30 in there anyway, or will it come from my bank as they are linked?Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -
Nope, only from your paypal account.
I dont really see what they can say to paypal anyway, i doubt PP will be interested. PP only seem to care if the goods dont turn up.

i have been through help on paypal and as you all say they got what they paid for and i cannot see that they will be interested, have sent the problem to e-bay but i don't know if they will be interested,
I am worred for my 100% feedback and as a decent human being am upset that they feel this way.Her e-mails are quite abrupt and strong!!
I have not replied to her again as yet and will await a reply from e-bay.
Thanks for the support everyone:beer:Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -
E-bay basically say its up to me what i do, i have not contacted her again but she has now said she thinks it best to sort it out between ourselves as paypal will freeze my account until its sorted.  Is this correct?
My freind is willing to give her £100 back but i still think she's taking us for a ride. I still don't know what to do.:rolleyes:Owner of a cute cottage in the North York Moors :j0 -
Personally I would fight them through paypal - if they actually go to them.
Send an email back saying that you have contacted ebay concerning this matter and that they say that they are happy that you provided the service paid for. I would go on to say that paypal are likely to take ths view aswell, therefore it is entirely up to them if they wish to waste anymore of their time and risk negative feedback on their ebay account. End with something like I feel you have received the service you paid for I hope this resolves the issue.0 -
I would call her bluff and not refund her. If it was so bad she should have mentioned it to your friend there and then. As the others say, seems like she's after a free holiday. Maybe something happened and she couldn't stay the full week - so thought she'd try it on for a refund.0
