I really wasn't looking forward to this ! Which is why it ended up being left til last
However, it was gorgeous, and probably one of my favourites from the whole planner. The only downside is that we really want something hot and steamy at night, ideally (and some nice hot food, too ), but we both agreed this would make a really nice lunch to take in to work
Massive portion again - we are both seriosuly stuffed, and there is enough left for another dinner or two lunches (I made a half portion).0 -
stressedmum I basically need to see if an onion fritter would be nice, seasoned with salt, a teaspoon of sugar, garlic, pepper, chilli if you like.
Can you use method and rough proportions of the sweetcorn fritters?
edit: but the onions in place of sweetcorn iyswim?
Either that or onion rings?
Ta very muchly

Ooo Murrell, this is a bit OT but do you know if it's possible/how-to make soya yoghurt in a slow cooker? Is there a way to do it cheaply? All I can seem to find is those ultra-expensive fancy "yoghurt starters" but I know with cow's milk yoghurt I think you can do it from just a normal pot bought at the supermarket!
As Murrell says.. you can make yoghurt in a flask.
This is what I do...but this is with normal yoghurt, not soya, so I dont know what, if any, differences will be...
Pour hot water in flask, to heat it up... 5 mins or so... then pour out water.
Pour in one litre of value skimmed milk - blood temperature - into the flask
Mix a good table spoon of yoghurt, with a good 2 tablespoons of dried milk powder.
Add the yoghurt mix to the milk, in the flask.
Close and leave over night/ 8 hours to yog
You can strain, over muslin, to make a thicker yoghurt.
And the whey can be used to make scones or such like
I did always mean to try it with soya yoghurt, but never quite got round to it....
And then my flask broke... so now I am back to buying the value/smart price stuff

I was given my BM about a year and a half ago and never used it.. I love the idea of all the work being done for meI'll see what it's like tomorrow and bake another loaf. Should I store it wrapped in something?
I sometimes use my breadmaker, when time does not permit.
But to be honest, I really find kneading the bread very theraputic:rotfl:
Murrell... sorry to hear about your dad xx
I think I will be trying both the xmas soups, over the next day or so. I have mushrooms in the freezer... and plenty of onions
I will let you know my findings
Ok... work calls

Yes
But I believe some of the ingredients dont half too well... so round up, so that no one goes hungry, if you know what I mean0 -
[Q
I'd have a go at the handmade ones but I feel like I need to use my breadmaker! lol. Also don't have any loaf tins to do one in the oven.
Hmm.[/QUOTE]
Hi snowed sorry this is prob a bit late but if you dont have or cant afford the tins at the moment i always use the Paul Merrit method (sorry weezl:o) and no tins required. Or you could buy loaf tins from Poundland to do you in the meantime if you fancied. HTH xx

Potty's got it, kindofHalve, but when there's an odd number of packets, go up (so if four people have five bags of carrots, get three for two people) and then you'll have stuff left over at the end of the month that can go towards next month's food

Sorry just come to post and found my heading for the kitchen now post hasn't appeared.
I have tried the fritters with chopped onions not really worked I'm afraid, difficult to cook, fall apart etc.
Now trying them with grated onion. Have flavoured one with chilli and one with garam masala. A little heavy handed on the seasoning but a hit with me and DD1. The garam ones are like bahjis and the chilli one are lovely (but a bit too hot!!)
Final result of onion fritters - plain ones seasoned only with salt and pepper, made with grated onions are OK. Chili seasoned ones made with grated onion are good. - a little tricky to make sure onion is soft and batter not 'doughy'.
