you are totally looking at the maths in the wrong way

£60 of clubcard vouchers is worth £60 cash in Tesco - so using deals vouchers to pay for the above has only cost you £60 as thats what their face value is

however, you acquired these vouchers for free, so overall the 'flight experience' has cost you absolutely nothing - its a toss up really, pay £119 cash , or use a voucher that you were given for free, but has 'worth £240' printed on the front

i just dont get, why people feel they are being ripped off?

    F

If you pay fully for whatever you buy with vouchers, fair enough I agree with your view.

If however, you end up adding cash to the vouchers and have not done some research on cost at Mr T versus lowest price elsewhere, you can end up effectively losing the value of your vouchers and still spend the same amount of cash.

That is where the feeling of being "ripped off" comes from.

It all comes down to how savvy the individual is, and that is where the MSE site and its members come in to give advice.:D

Now for a question of my own - does anyone know what Mr T classes as "white goods"? Thinking of electricals like Laptops, TVs, Hard Disc DVD recorders etc.

'white goods' are large appliances like washing machines, fridges, dishwashers, etc.

but how can you be ripped off, if tesco are giving you something for free?

when comparing like for like, tesco are not overcharging for the same product, so where is the rip off?

yes, i understand what you are saying about some things being cheaper elsewhere, and you could be wasting your clubcard vouchers if you dont have enough to pay for a product in full, but thats the same for anything you buy, you have to shop around and see what works best for your pocket

dazza.mk wasnt moaning about the fact unless you could pay for a deal in full you being ripped off. he just saw the baseline of 4x the value and went hunting to see what the cash costs were. then wrongly made the point that tesco were ripping people off. people need to ignore the 4x byline, and just see what the face value of their clubcard tokens gets them, compared to what an actual cash outlay would be

in the majority of cases, you are onto a winner with clubcard vouchers, but as always you have to play them to your own advantage

I think the general term of white goods are items such as washing machine, fridge, cooker...

I think what you named comes under general classification of Entertainment...

    No sorry, don't buy that.
And if you don't do the highlighted part then you can't read and it is highly unlikely that you even read MSE :D OR you don't give a damn about money and you can afford not to read MSE:D

Thanks Delain and Any for your thoughts on white goods; but I was looking more for what Mr T classifies as white goods rather than the generally accepted classifications (the two may not be the same).

Quite so; I was just giving a view as to why people may feel ripped off.

The subject has been done to death elsewhere on these forums, and I have no intention of opening the debate again.

Did you try their website? Tesco direct is split into different categories... you'll see what comes up when you click white goods (if they have such a category there?)

EDIT: I just looked and they have offer "free delivery if you spend over £200 on white goods" and this came up http://direct.tesco.com/promo/default.aspx?id=S00015754

So I think for them White goods = large kitchen appliances

That's a bit strong, smileys or not.

Everyone has to start somewhere. How would you feel if you were a new MSEer reading that sentence, who actually hadn't been in the habit of researching on prices etc.?

    ???
Then it would tell you that you need to.

And another advice would be that if you get so easily upset then you shouldn't visit public forums.
