    Kurtis_Blue is right; unfortunately.

punishment/fine for breaking the TV Licencing Law and remedies under the 'Law of Contract' are two different things.
To put it in other way, you do not need to have a contract to break a law.

Which is shame really. otherwise we could get away without paying speeding fines and fixed penalties, riots, rape, murder or whatever ;)
  • "contract statute breech" what has that got to do with tv licence legal requirements? you seem to have picked random semi legal sounding terms and scattered them about in a sentence.

This is why you shouldnt rely on any legal advice from web forums.

You have NO clue what you're talking about!! It's TRUE that once you withdraw and/or withhold your name, you cannot be prosecuted... I withdrew my name from bbctvl 5 years ago & am still licence free, they keep asking if I'm Ms ....... & I just laugh & close the door! It's a great game :rotfl:

I'm afraid I know it inside and out.

You are confusing "cannot be prosecuted" (which states a legal status) with "have not yet been prosecuted" which is the actual position you find yourself, however the main point is that my reply to "VAX2002" was not dealing with your situation rather his lack of understanding of TVL law even calling it "contract statue breech" (sic)

I'm glad however that you are enjoying your "game", bet its nice to have a hobby.

Breaking of any Law is prosecutable/punishable; and that include the TV Licensing Law.

Apart from evidence, a name is also needed for prosecution.
In these days of sophisticated databases and intranets, seeking out the name is not impossible, IF a someone really want to do it.

Few months ago, a salesman from Scottish Energy (pretending to be an energy consultant) knocked on the door asking to see our fuel bills; so that he can save us money (clever pitch).
When I refused, he took an official stance and demanded to see the bills; claiming that it is a 'mandatory'. I told him to go back to school and learn what 'mandatory' means.

I thought that was funny. But this "contact statute breech" is hilarious :rotfl:

No.......... However, if they supply you with a STB or a TV then they must pass on the details.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

They can just get names from the electoral roll.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If people are stupid enough NOT to put a tick in the box stating they'll be kept off the electoral roll that the public can have access to, then they only have themselves to blame!!

Why can't people use some common sense once in a while?! *sheesh*

Maybe there is a correlation between stupid people and those that freeload off the rest of the community? maybe those with the common sense just pay the licence fee if they watch live TV and get on with life?
