I do talk some twaddle don't I?
Fixed that for you.
I told the TVL morons in writing that I didn't need a licence anymore two years ago. (I only watch iplayer).
They ackowledged it (for a few months) then just started sending their threatograms again.
I refuse to waste my time telling them again, so I simply ignore them and file the letters -they go in cycles, sometime they are written in RED CAPITALS! :rotfl:0 -

Will that affect your credit ratings in any way?0 -
errrm  watching DVDs, gaming, viewing photographs, pc/laptop monitor for exampleI know where you are coming from, but I think you will find, you will need to prove that you are not using it as a TV receiver, rather than they having to prove that you are.
I think the logic is, why have a receiver if you don't intend to use it as such.
all of them uses for a telly that were undreamt of when all you could do with one was watch BBC
& the onus is on them to prove that you've been acting outside of the law0 -
I wonder if birkee works for capita?
As has been said . .
You do not need a tv licence to own a tv or any other equipment capable of receiving a broadcast signal.
You only need a licence to watch or record a broadcast signal as it's transmitted.
You do not have to allow access to anyone who comes knocking at door to see if you have or are watching tv. They have no authority to enter your premises (they might sneak around, peeping in windows, which I would have thought was illegal)
When you buy a new tv the retailer is required to provide your details to the authorities, you will then get harassed unless of course you buy a licence. But you don't need one unless you watch/ record live tv and that would include any Arabic or whatever channel on satellite!
I have heard they tell all kinds of porkies about having the right to enter and about how you will be locked up forever and your first born sent to the salt mines etc etc etc ..
YOU DO NOT NEED A LICENCE TO OWN A TELEVISION.

You however are under no legal obligation to give the correct contact details.0 -

This is obtuse, You don't need a TV receiver for these things. You need a monitor. The fact that you can't get the 40" monitor with HD, is not the fault of the TV transmitters. You choose to use something that has a TV receiver built into it.
A laptop than can receive TV transmission is not exempt.
They WILL try and prove you use a TV. They don't have to target everyone in the country to prove things, so you can hide in the crowd, they just target homes without a TV licence recorded at a particular address.
You are saying something to the effect of. If you have a car parked on your drive, which you use as a greenhouse or a toolstore etc, you are exempt from the motoring regulations. You're not!
It has to have tax and insurance, or have a SORN registration now. (New regulations coming in about now.) Even if your car is in bits.0 -
It's not obtuse, these are perfectly legitimate licence-free uses for a television receiver, see my post #25 for my own experience of those uses with the full knowledge of TVLA.My earlier post:

I'm well aware of the legal issues & the consequences of television ownership without a licence.
I'm not, & wasn't breaking any laws.
Why I choose to use a television receiver rather than a monitor is no-one's business other than my own.
I can't see how motoring law is relevant to this topic?
I'm really not sure what your argument is here. :think:0
