  • I know that feeling.

It reads like you were more happy when abstinent than when drinking.

Abstinence only works well for me as I have changed myself, so no longer WANT to drink. Thus I am not denying myself alcohol

Yes it's the idea that i am missing out somehow, and yet on what?

Hangovers, memory problems, bad nights etc etc etc

    I just don't know.....

But I am sober and happy with it tonight:)

  • Hiya Fay and SSG,

I'm just off to bed but just wanted to say I know what you both mean. You haven't offended anyone SSG and you really have been doing so well recently apart from the recent blip. Happens to most of us. All the best.

    Night

Thank you for that DB, it is appreciated.

I hope things are going well for you....

We will all get there won't we?

I have to keep at it as I am fed up updating my sig!

Yes you are right, so why can I just not resist when the notion hits?

Why did I get a half bottle and not a quarter and limit it?

And to have a blowout when i am up early the next morning instead of waiting till my day off?

    As Sim would say

    Bonkers

On the plus side I am now skint and working backshift 4 nights this week so I won't be drinking.

I just don't know what to do.....

Alcohol is a legal drug, and I have a drug addiction (alcoholism).
This means, unless treated, that I behave irrationally around alcohol.
I need help from others to make sure I don't pick up a drink today.
What I needed to do was to reach out for help and realise that I tried to fight alcohol and I lost. It beat me.
And the second I raised the white flag and surrendered, the desire to drink diminished rapidly.

I once met a woman in AA who told me the following:

" i am glad i'm an alcoholic cos if i'm not i am just totally fcked up! and I don't know what it is:rotfl: "

I will say nothing at this moment in time Graeme other than thankyou for your posts and I think you are right:)

Does posting in this thread constitute one of your ways of actively pursuing sobriety?

    Hiya ladies and gents,

Hope you're all enjoying a relaxing weekend.

I had rather a quiet one at home. Full English breakfast for dinner!

Followed by a relaxing bath, and some classic Rebus and Cracker on TV :)

Am still a bit worried about my finances, but now I've got a plan in place as to resolving it I do feel a bit more positive.

Been sober a week here now which feels good.

Hugs to you guys who need them,

    Night night,

    Sim x
