    Welcome Debs.

Good Luck today Sim hope it goes well.

Day off for me from work at least but it means that it's my 'Fly lady day' when i've had another coffee promise.

JO - Re your post about panicing at 6am. When I went on that course last week they did a thing called the vanishing trick which was very clever I thought.

You think hard about an inanimate object that you can't do without. Perhaps a car, mobile, laptop, even a toaster!! Think about how useful it is, how much you love it. Then imagine that you wake up one day to find out it has disappeared and you will never ever own one again. How does it feel? What do you think? Could be sad, angry, panicky, upset etc. Then work through (thats such a cheesy line-sorry) your feelings and how you are going to overcome this hole in your life. Remember you cant just go out and buy another or use someone elses.

Of course the 'object' is really the drug...booze, coke whatever but by looking at it in the way above it lets you explore your feelings safely and realise that they are normal, they are going to happen. My thought when i did the exercise was 'What can I replace it with' - maybe using the money spent on booze could be spent on a counsellor, anyway it's for each individual to think through themselves.

Ok amateur pshycology 5 minutes over. Have a good day all. x

    Thanks 365days :)

    Love the psychobabble ;)

    Have a good one.

See you all later for a lovely big group hug.

    Sim xx

Hi I was wondering if I could join in? Ive been reading for a while and now that Ive built the courage to post Im lost for words. I admire the support that you all give to each other. I find it difficult to go more than 2 nights without having a couple of drinks and have done for a while now. I have 2 jobs 3 kids and a partner. I hope this is ok for a first post. Now to see if i can send it.

    Debbie

    Welcome!! :)

Good luck for today Sim - it will be fine

Cazza - vibes been sent - hope it all goes through smoothly

Jo -this is the post I promised on Wednesday evening:

When I decided that I needed to stop my sherry habit (I allowed myself 2 bottles per week and when I found it difficult to restrict it this way I knew I had to stop it completely) I just decided not to buy it. I refused to think beyond the buying process just put all the effort of not buying it.

My worst bell time was when I put DD to bed as that is when I really wanted to have a drink to relax me but if I didn't have it in the house I wasn't able to sneak out while DD sleeping to get any so I had to find other ways to deal with it. Hence finding edable alternatives, something luxurious and sugary will do the trick. And it still cost less than the booze.

So instead of thinking of what I can't have (sherry) I was concentrating of what I can have (Th0rnton caramel shortbread :p). So perhaps it will work also with: Instead of drinking what is it that I can do tonight that I would be really looking forward to (bath, good book, new magazine, new hobby, study, walk, Jillian ;)...) meditation

Morning everone and welcome to a wonderful place Debs.:o

Well guys I did it.....left my job yesterday (cried my eyes out...and still feel teary).
A new job awaits at 6am Monday morning:eek::eek:.

When I was told I had got my new job I was terrified.I was going to be leaving a very comfortable place .....it felt alot like giving up the alcohol:o

I had to keep telling myself to ...'Feel the Fear and do it anyway'....Some of you may have read the book:)

I think this can be applied to the scary feeling that some of you talk about....especially Jo.Dont be afraid of the feelings of panic at not drinking tonight....you know through experience that you can ride through these and wake up tomorrow morning still alive.
Not drinking alcohol WONT kill you:)

Good luck to everyone who wants to be AF for today.

I will be available for texting JO;).

Hope all goes well today for you SIM.

    Happy Friday peeps
    Take care of YOU

I know this is meant to a serious thread about alcohol but I did have a laugh. I misread marru's advice as get a new hubby:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:and I thought poor man, just because he goes out two nights on the trot he's for the push:eek:

Totally agree marru with the idea of looking forward to something else. Of course it's easier said than done....

 Deb, do join in, all welcome. Most of us are moving from daily drinking to wherever we want to be so I'm sure it'll help you too.

MP, it's hard leaving colleagues you've been with for ages but you have to look forward! I don't remember you telling us about the new job. Better hours? money? more interesting?
