Hi thank you all for your warm welcome.

I was really nervous bout sending the first post so it was a bit of type quick and run that and having a sore head due to hangover.

I would love to give up alcohol altogether but just seems so impossible and I seem to come up with every excuse under the sun.

I would maybe drink 4 or 5 nights in a row then manage 2 nights without, then back to square one.

I’m hoping it stays dry here today got lots of washing to do.

    Thanks for listening

Hope you all have a great day.

    Debbie

That's the awful thing about it. It tells us that we cannot live without it. So many people never make the leap to be alcohol free.

Nicotine was the same with me. I didn't think life would be possible without it in my system, but it was.....

And so it is with alcohol. I don't think anyone on this thread regrets not drinking, though many do regret drinking and falling off the wagon.

    Good luck.

Hi Debbie, welcome to the thread.

MP, I love 'feel the fear', I found it a great help when I was younger and it made a difference to the way my life was going. I think I need to read it again now as I'm feeling quite 'small and frightened' about a number of things at the moment.

Jo, I found your comments really interesting. I have to confess that this is quite a new state of mind for me to be in. Before I was anxious about getting enough drink - you know, watching the wine bottle being passed around, slightly worried in case it ran out before I got my share. The relief then was when my glass was full and the anxiety would start as the level in the glass dropped. I'd keep half an eye on the time to make sure I wouldn't miss the last opportunity for a drink and would worry when others said they didn't want 'one last one'.
What's changed recently, I think, is the realisation that I really don't have to drink - I really can say no. Firstly, no one will pressurise me and secondly I am actually capable - before I just thought I was a hopeless case. I'm still wobbly most days around 5-6 oclock and even writing now makes me feel as if I want to crack open a bottle tonight because it's Friday. Anyway, early days yet.

Was AF yesterday again, am slightly anxious about the weekend as we have friends coming for lunch but they are very moderate drinkers (until he gets out his grandmother's homemade pear liquor)

Sim, hope everything went well this afternooon (I think your meeting was this pm)
    Trying to keep in budget.

    A thought about people leaving.

I don't think you ever leave once you've been here. There's no attendance register. No need to 'leave' just take a break and pop back up whenever you fancy it.

I think that's sort of how I feel. I 'left' at the end of last year and popped in a lot between then and now without posting. But I still sort of felt part of it if that makes sense, even though no-one on here knew I was lurking
