I am absolutely fed up with this drinking business :(

I've been reading Liver Sober since Sunday whenever I've had 10 minutes spare and it says that it's unwise to set yourself goals, it's better to not drink for that day or even that hour or for the next 10 minutes, it then even says if all these are too much then just don't drink whilst you are reading that page! This is to obviously break it down and make it all more managable.

This is where my problem lies.....I want to break it down into 10-15 minute sections today but I leave work, go to offy and buy alcohol, go home and drink it. If I left work and went home without the alcohol, then this in itself would trigger panic and cravings. If I left work and went to offy and left alcohol in car, then it'd be singing to me all night long. What am I gonna do?

I could and have said to myself in the past, that I won't buy any now but if I really want to then I'll go out to shop later. If I do decide I want to go out and get some later then this could and has previously caused a very uncomfortable evening because I couldn't think of a justifiable excuse to go to the shop. I can't afford to make this worse than it's gonna be otherwise there's more chance I'll have vino collapso, to steal a phrase ;)

Yes, yes, I know, I'm making all too much out of this, but I don't want to drink today and I get the whole not drinking for the next 10 minute thing but I don't know how to give myself a chance of doing it.

My main problem is getting home with no alcohol, the draw to the shop is so strong it's practically impossible to ignore. I don't want alcohol and I don't want to stop but I always pull up and go in anyway. My mind is saying, 'you'll regret it later if you don't get any now'

It is very important that I have an AF day today and tomorrow as OH is out on Friday and Saturday and if I drink tomorrow then I won't have any strength to stay AF when he's out and so I know that the weekend will be wiped out.

    Feel like crap :(

    (((jo))))

This will be no help to you at all but....... last year, when I was trying to get back in to running, we made a pact in the office that 'Wednesday was running day'. No ifs, no buts. This took any 'decision' out of the equation and no matter how carp any of us were feeling, or how demotivated anyone was (lots in my case), we were still out there.

Could you apply the same logic, somehow? If you take the decision-making part out of it, then there'll be no offy dilemma, and probably no bells, as there's nothing to have an internal dialogue about. You AREN'T drinking today. End.

But don't worry. Someone will be along withsome practical, useful advice in a minute :o

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

(((Hugs)) Jo. Sorry I don't really have an answer for you. I have just completed 6 days of my 100 day challenge:eek:. I still want to drink every day (especially when I am leaving the office) but keep telling myself I can't .... so far so good . On the down side I am eating lots of biscuits etc ( something I very rarely do !) .

Do 10 mins and repeat. repeat . repeat.... . You can do it girl.. you have done it before so you can do it again;)

    Have a good day sweetie

    Love

    Thought you already did :p

I don't know what to suggest, babe :( I think you are stronger than you think & you can get passed it, just try for the 10 minutes, or the 5 or the 1 even & see if it works. You've done it before so you know you can do it again :A

Sending you hugs & muchos positive vibes :)

There is a whole section in Living Sober about eating sweet things when AF, it's actually a very good book....although some I know are not interested in AA, it does throw up some interesting points and makes you realise why you do what you do when planning a drink, drinking or abstaining :)

It basically goes through the HALT thing (hungry, angry, lonely, tired) and explains them and gives you tips on how to avoid feeling this way.

    So far so good ;)

  • Morning all.

Hugs Jo - I too think you are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Don't let a book freak you out. I don't know what to suggest about buying it on the way home, apart from don't take any money or cards out with you (but I know that's probably not practical). Just try and have a nice day hun, and worry about this evening when it comes :) You're too nice to be down like this all the time.

(sorry if that sounds a bit preachy, Pen x)
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
