Remembering that alcoholism is an incurable,

    progressive, fatal disease.

    Living Sober Chapter #4.

I'd say that was pretty negative!!

I think what I found so useful was focusing not on what could happen if you change, cos change can be scary. But when you look at is from what are the pros and cons of staying the same it puts a whole new light on it.

Thanks. Absolutely nothing compared to some, but still not very nice.

Just spoke to a friend on FB and she very suddenly lost her (9 mth pregnant) sister to swine flu last Christmas. She fostered a lovely little boy for 2 years (from birth) and he has just been taken away from her to be given back to his mother...........she is beside herself with grief............

Always makes me feel better to visit this forum...........you think you're having a bad day, read a few threads on here and realise how lucky you are!

Well I just wrote out a long post and then pressed the space bar and it all disappeared.............

Feeling carp tonight........mixture of having a cold, a very stroppy, hormonal, just blooming horrible 16 year old son and being totally heartbroken as recently split with other 1/2.

Thinking of all of you.......AF or not. Too many to mention individuals but a quickie for

SIM well done on getting all your paperwork together and for warding off that 'I need a drink' feeling. Hope all goes well for you.

    GraemeCarter so wise...........so true.
You always seem to hit the nail on the head. Everyone (that didn't live with him) thought my dad was the lovliest, gentlest, kindest, funny man.
Quite different to being locked in a wardrobe by your mum because dad wanted to beat the living daylights out of you or seeing him collapsed on the floor, 6" away from the Schnapps bottle he couldn't reach, trousers wet..........laying in a pile of vomit.........not the best childhood memories.

    Hiya DundeeDoll,

    Big Hugs for you.

So sorry to read about your heartbreak.

    Thanks for the Congrats.

  • Good Evening / Good Morning all!

Hope you've all had a great Wednesday.

    Hugs to Jo.

Paolo - Congrats on you finding your new digs! Onwards and upwards for ya now :)

    365days -

Love the sound of the course.

    Hope you enjoyed it!

Sounds quite 'evidence based' / CBT oriented type stuff. Right up my street!

I met my CBT chap today for the first time. Lovely bloke.

Also, got my stuff printed off at the library, ready to run by my Advocacy chap tomorrow / today - Thursday :)

Will then post my letter / GP's supporting letter off to the Tribunal Service by 'Special Delivery', so it reaches them Friday - on time then for next week's Tribunal.

    Am absolutely dreading it.

Scared witless I'll fail, as I don't have any 'specific evidence' from my Substance Misuse Worker (she didn't know me at the time of the DWP Medical) and even my Pathways to Work advisor has said in her email that she thought I was capable of working, but only under 16 hours..
Not in February I wasn't. I was hardly leaving my flat!

So, all I'll have is my words (8 pages of them - worried the Tribunal Panel will think this is OTT) and my Doctor's letter (which still hasn't arrived - have checked, and it should be here this morning).

If I win the Tribunal, they'll will give me some space to concentrate on getting professional help with my health. They'll also backdate my ESA - about £800 which will obviously help me pay off some debts.

if I lose it, they'll force me to look for work straight away / claim JSA.

Am really trying hard not to obsess about this, but I feel so scared.

After spending about 6 hours going through the medical report (from Feb) and putting my letter together on Monday night, I do feel a lot more prepared.

However, I almost feel bad because I feel better now, as compared to last Feb (the time they're interested in).

    Enough. Sorry to witter.

CBT went well. Couldn't have wished for a nicer guy.

Been productive all week with preparing paperwork (just behold that glorious alliteration!)

Cashed my £50 YouGov cheque at Money Shop. They were going to charge me £4.00! I haggled, and got them down to £3.00 :)

Went to Netto and got some much needed grub in. Gonna pay NPower / pay some money to my Girlfriend tomorrow too.

Rang my Water Trust Fund for an update re my application for help with some of my debts (sent in about 6 weeks back) - they confirmed my application is being looked at yesterday / today, and they'll let me know by end of the week.

Budgeting Loan of £230 also arrives in my account today.

5 / 6 weeks back I would've been tempted to go off on a boozy bender.

Tonight, I just don't want to drink, and it feels good. I'll be a nervous wreck in 8 days time, but I'll deal with it. I will get through this Tribunal and I've done my best, with preparing to win it. If I don't, then I'll cross that bridge... :)

    Night night all, sleep tight,

  • Just a quickie before I retire to bed........

    1 more AFD please Shaggy!!

This evening job is such hard work and I am already having trouble adjusting to the tiredness and physicality of it, but it ain't half stopping me drinking!!

So perhaps sore arms, a sore back and eyelids that involuntarily shut during the day aren't so bad after all, LOL. :D And of course I am earning money, not a lot, but anything is a plus at the moment, in these financially lean times.

    Night night all. :)

    Hugs

Didn't sleep well last night...don't know why. Think I went to bed too early. Was AF so it wasn't that - 14 AFDs for me.

Off to catch up on the thread.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Well done Sim, that is quite a powerful statement and shows how not drinking has helped you find your confidence again and want to change, just like 365's coursework! Take one step at a time so not to be overwhelmed. Don't worry about 8 days till until 8 days time turns up :)

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Well done Caz :)

    Morning to everyone else

I'm not doing well, not well at all :(

I think I need to be locked up somewhere to stop me drinking, I don't even want to drink but I do it, I actually say to myself 'I don't want this' and I do it, I do it cos I can.

Today will be an interesting one, I have to stay for a meeting after work and it won't finish until around 9pm. Last week I left that 'do' that I organised after 10pm and even though that's bedtime, did intend to pop in offy and buy a couple, but they were shutting and I didn't want to stop them shutting to buy beer, it's not exactly an emergency like gas or electric or milk :rotfl: (well, for them it's not :undecided). But today will be slightly earlier when shop is open but I will have passed my normal danger time if it'd been a normal night sat indoors. How strong will I be? Most probably, not very.... :(

I'm getting to the point where I'm actually relieved to wake up, then I know that I haven't died in the night.

I'm ready for the tough love treatment now please...
