Thanks guys, unfortunately it will be broken today as I have an 'old mother hubbard' situation going on. So I will have to get a few things bread etc. I thought I was doing well having cut my shopping bills down from approx £130pw to £80 but having read forum threads I need to cut about another £30 off it *big sigh* but I am determined that I can do that, ds will have to get used to the new regime. How can you 'fill up' a 16 yr old cheaply he seems to continually be looking for food!!!!

Hi crisispoint914 and welcome to the NSD thread. Well done for your 4 NSDs, you should feel very proud of yourself. Why not come and join us for the September challenge and see how many you can get?

Re filling up a 16-year old, Keiss 21 has two large and growing sons, as does cw18, they can probably offer you some advice, not sure if they've been around today but they're here most days, have a look through their posts on here.

Hope this helps and look forward to seeing you here again

    Hi to everyone else

In the middle of a NSD, eating my packed lunch ATM.
Trying to recover from my BIG spends yesterday! Our day with inlaws was ok, came home though under pressure to have some kind of "do" for OH's 50th next month. OH is not fussed, he thinks it's just another day . We are off work for his birthday,so we were just planning to go out for a nice lunch ourselves. We cant really afford or have the space to do anything lavish. Bearing in mind that none of his rellies usually bother even sending a card, I dont see why we should cough up to do something we dont really want to do.
    I'd appreciate any thoughts - am I being a total meanie?:o

    Have a lovely day everyone:)
    Hi jintyb
No, you're not being a total meanie at all. It's your OH's birthday and why put him through a big celebration (and yourselves through the big expense) if that's not what he wants. A nice lunch out sounds lovely - it's something special for you both and something you want to do. Maybe have an afternoon tea time do for his relatives if they're really hinting at something, sandwiches and home made cakes (or something like that)?

    Hope that helps

I have one son at home....

He's just turned 19, and is actually pretty tolerant about what's put in front of him (as long as it includes meat, isn't fish unless it's grilled or steamed salmon or boil in the bag fish in butter sauce, has little in the way of visible veg, more of the meals are based around pasta/rice than potatoes, includes gravy if not a sauce based meal, and fills the plate) - just as long as there's (cheap) ice-cream in the freezer for snacks/supper and milk in the fridge for him to drink - thanks heavens for the 50p offer on 1% milk in Mr M this month ;)

One of his favourite meals is sausages (Mr T frozen value ones being his preference) with stuffed pasta (only ever bought in Whoopsie or if on offer, so not unusual to have a small freezer drawer full of this when opportunity to buy strikes) and pasta sauce (currently working our way through 14kg of the stuff I bought from App F00ds a couple of months ago)

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that the ONLY way I manage to keep to a low grocery budget (£1.70 per person per day) is because I get so much of my shopping as Whoopsies. To date this year I've spent £756.50 (this is just food and drink - no toiletries or cleaning items, nor pet food), of which £274.51 has been spent on Whoopsies with a 'real' value of £1189.40 !!!!!

's OK - I do have an older DS (21), but he's in Germany with the Army. He'd have been more of a problem for feeding on a budget, as he also complains about the size of meat portions

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Good morning everyone!

Managed to rack up another NSD yesterday, taking me up to 12 NSDs! Unfortunately, this roll will come to an end soon as the cupboards are looking bare; however, with 2 weeks left to go this month, and 7 more NSDs required, I'm some what prematurely expecting to exceed my target this month ... fingers crossed!

Welcome to the thread losingpatience - good luck collecting NSDs and have a good day everyone!

jinty - I agree, if your OH doesn't want a fuss then do what he wants. For my OH's 40th he didn't want a big 'do' so I booked us a weekend at a hotel with a spa nearby - it was lovely and I got some pampering out of it too so it was win win all round :):).

Thanks to you all and Big Mumma for all the advice and for helping me not to feel like a total meanie!
Had a good chat with OH last night re birthday - he was feeling the same pressure as me but he also feels that he doesnt want to give in to it!
He's been living in Edinburgh with me for the last five years and his rellies have visited us ONCE in all that time! It's always us making the effort to see them ( they're in Glasgow) We have decided to stick to our guns and not do the "big bash" and we are going to a lovely bistro nearby for lunch on his birthday. He wants to invite my Mum and Dad cos he said he'd like to to treat them as they have done a lot for us over the years. I thought that was lovely of him!:) Feel a lot better now as I was starting to panic about the money and that's not what it should be about!
Managed NSD # 9 yesterday, really pleased. Should be another today, I'm going to tax the car today, but that doesnt count as I've got the money saved in Credit Union - for the first time ever I've got the cash saved! GO ME!!!:T

    Have a great day everyone:)

you will always be rich enough to be generous.
