Thanks to you all and Big Mumma for all the advice and for helping me not to feel like a total meanie!
Had a good chat with OH last night re birthday - he was feeling the same pressure as me but he also feels that he doesnt want to give in to it!
He's been living in Edinburgh with me for the last five years and his rellies have visited us ONCE in all that time! It's always us making the effort to see them ( they're in Glasgow) We have decided to stick to our guns and not do the "big bash" and we are going to a lovely bistro nearby for lunch on his birthday. He wants to invite my Mum and Dad cos he said he'd like to to treat them as they have done a lot for us over the years. I thought that was lovely of him!:) Feel a lot better now as I was starting to panic about the money and that's not what it should be about!
Managed NSD # 9 yesterday, really pleased. Should be another today, I'm going to tax the car today, but that doesnt count as I've got the money saved in Credit Union - for the first time ever I've got the cash saved! GO ME!!!:T

    Have a great day everyone:)[/QUOTE]

So pleased you have reached a decision that suits you:D
    Arent credit unions fab?
I love being able to access a wee bit of money when I need to.

    Morning all!
Yesterday was a spendy day (about £10) on stuff I didn't really need after a gruelling doctors appointment and some potential bad news. But today will be better - I promise!
  • I was hoping today was going to be another NSD but my sister and her boyfriend have decided they want to stop at ours tonight so thats thrown a spanner in the works as I'll have to buy milk for their coffee ( I was hoping to put off having to go for milk until I go shopping on Friday as me and the OH aren't that fussed on cuppas ) and may have to get something to go with dinner. Trying to use up things in the freezer and managed to find a pack of chicken thighs and legs but there's only 7 of them so need to find a way to make them stretch ( my OH and my sisters OH are both big lads with big appetites ). Found a jar of chicken tonight sauce and I have rice so that might have to do for tea. Also found a chinese selection box in the freezer with spring rolls, wantons etc in so suppose I could cook them to go with it, though it doesn't really go
Going to get to grips with food shopping again, starting February!

Got married to my lovely hubby on 12/11/2011 :D
  • Hello fellow NSD-ers.

Feel horrendous because I've had rather a lengthy absence from the boards. Some good news first - I was given a payrise in work :j.

It's quite a lot more money and I'm really chuffed. But a number of things got totally in the way of my NSD challenge - went out to celebrate, so spent money, then had a v mild case of the munchies the day after (mild hangover I think). So basically spent on bacon sandwiches etc.

So after a week of total failure, I'm stepping out and declaring today NSD #5. Hopefully I'll hit this month's target of 11, but reckon it'll be tight :o

    Morning all!

yesterday ended up being a NSD so one more for me please Spoon.

Hmm not sure about today... I need some fresh tomatoes and linguine for tea - not sure who will get that me or Mr Looloo... If I get it I will get some disel at the same time and keep all my spends together........

We maybe going shopping today as one of the guys at work and his wife have just had twins.. but if he comes in today (as she is still in hospital) we will take him to lunch (this is all NS's for me as the company will pay)

Ugh I have some sandwich fillig for my lunch and I noticed that it went out of date yesterday so in a way I am hoping we don't go out ot lunch as I can eat that (not sure one little day will make much difference but dont' want to chance it for two days..) It will really annoy me though if I have to throw it away!!!

Morning all - Sunnylooloo, I really wouldn't worry about a day or two out of date, companies have to allow a few days for people like me who generally ignore use by dates anyway. I go by the addage of 'if it doesn't smell funny, look funny, or have something furry growing on it then it's ok to eat'. I had sasuages the other night that were at least 4 days over date, they were totally fine. Just give it a good sniff and that's your best way of checking (similarly I have taken items back because they are off before the use by date, usually when the packaging hasn't sealed properly). In 'the old days' people didn't have use by dates and seemed to get by. I also have a friend who will not use anything even one day over date...and guess who is ill more often....

Folks - is the 1% milk on offer in Mr M a 4pinter? I need some milk but do go near a Mr M tomorrow evening, me and OH go through gallons of cow juice between us so seems a good idea to take advantage of this offer - if it's still on?

cheers Kerri - I know I shouldn't worry too much (Hmm I can still remember the days pre: Sell by dates!!) It's been in the fridge so I will use it today or tomorrow as long as no fur starts to grow hahaha. I normally ignore it on fruit or veg in my fridge as long as it seems ok.

Mr Looloo was really annoyed the other day he got a packet of basics pitta breads and got them home and they were all mouldy (only cost him 50p) but he was so angry he drove back down there, they changed them and gave him a £5 gift card!

One thing I find I have problems with is cherry or baby tomotoes, no matter how much they are in date there are always one or two that are always split or soft.... no matter where Iseem to buy them!

Not sure about milk (I hardly use milk at all!)

I've heard a lot about these, but it looks like--once again--they are more of a north-of Watford Gap thing :(

Managed to avoid on line shopping yesterday but thinking about it, I'd meant to have a look at prices & things :doh:Ah well..today's another day & it means No 11 can join the party :p
