BT Putting prices up whilst in contract?

If I am understanding this right BT are increasing line rental 1st October.

But surely if we've signed up to the Evenings and weekends deal aren't we under contract and therefore they cannot increase our charges until the contract expires?

please correct me if Im wrong

    You're wrong. BT (and all telephone companies) cover such increases in their T&Cs.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

  • Just spoke to BT and they told me that I can cancel my line and move without penalty as they are changing things to my detriment

    You have until a certian date (advisor didn't know exact date) to leave without penalty
    baldly going on...

    Yes if inclusive 0845/0870 calls are not important to you, and you dont mind restricting your future choice of supplier should Sky unbundle your line.

    I changed to BT when they offered the package deal for Pone broadband and tele thinking it would not cost me any more than i was initialy paying for broadband and phone ....BIG BIG mistake.... I have been charged £25 on top of the flat rate for broadband use and my bill has gone up to £85

    I very much doubt you will get out of BB and TV, only the line rental
  • It's a bit more complex with the bundled packages. Unless there is something in the terms and conditions which permits for price increases specifically, where the supplier wants to change the pricing, and makes you the offer (stay with us at the higher price, else you disagree and the contract will become void - e.g. the supplier refuses to continue to supply under the terms as agreed)

    Should you elect to disagree to the new charges, the cancellation of the contract for phone means that the BT Vision thing can't be supplied any more, because the broadband can't be supplied any more since the line is required. However it's not entirely clear to me what happens here - I'd have thought that the dependent contracts (bb and vision) would also have to cancel without penalty, since the supplier is electing not to supply the line anymore - it isn't the customer's issue. The frustration has been caused solely by the supplier, not the customer.

    If the BT Vision thing worked on an ISP other than BT then you could migrate the line rental and broadband and keep the Vision thing if you wanted to, but it doesn't, and that's the supplier's stipulation.

    I would like to know this too, as I'm sick and tired of BT, and would love to get out of my contract (phone, bb and tv)

    Also, anyone know who or how to contact them regarding the extra cost of line rental and cancelling the contract?

    There may be a special number but everything appears to start at 0800 800 150 (get ready to start pressing buttons).

    I used the BT chat thing and was told:
    No, it is not possible to get out of your contract due to the price change, as we do advise in our terms and conditions we do reserve the right to make changes to our prices provided we do advise the customer
