Hiya Missymoo! How you doing? Good Luck finding the £500, have you considered doing an extra part time job just over Christmas to raise the funds? or doing something like Avon? not sure if these are realistic for you or not?
Also dont worry about Christmas, seriously get down to the carboots, we were at one the other day and a woman was selling unused and unopended giftsets for like a quid each - complete bargain! I made a list the other day of everyone I need to buy for and im doing in on the cheap. At the end of the day, its the thought that countsGood Luck xxxx

Hey my lovelies, just a quick heads up and it is not a good one I'm afraid, I have just been to Tesco and some of the prices have gone up quite a bit, literally over night.
And the dreaded price hike in flour has appeared this morning, bread flour has gone up from 50p to £1.29, plain flour and SF flour have both gone up from 42p to 59p!! So that means bread is going to go up very soon!!!!..
Am really cross as flour wasnt the only thing, hairspray had gone up 12p overnight, UHT milk 5p!!! I sat the other day and literally spent hours working out my budget and writing down prices but over night they have changed, and it isn't due to offers these are standard prices, it is absolutely crazy, I'm going to have to work out the cheapest meals and repeat them over the month I think!!!!!0 -
Gosh Missy, that's quite a hike in bread flour! We often make bread with cheapest of cheap flour (with a bit of posher flour thrown in if we've got it...). Get making bread I say! Still more expensive than before, but much cheaper than buying it! Good luck x0

cheers cheery, would you be so wonderfully kind as to give me your bread recipe, pretty please?
Isn't it freezing? my hands are actually cold, but I am too tight to put the heating on yet, am currently under my blanket (dressed this time though, as I didn't think all of tescos would appreciate my cupcake jarmies, lovely as they are......) hiding from the shopping that needs putting away.0 -
Freezing here too! I've got scarf on, blanket over my knees, and little electric heater warming up my little attic!
Can't give you my bread recipe I'm afraid, as it's all done by trial and error and eye - well, I could give it to you, but it'd go something like 'put some cold and some boiling water into breadmaker, add a bit of butter, some flour, a bit of sugar, salt and yeast, then keep an eye on it while the breadmaker mixes it and use a chopstick to help it along, adding more flour if it looks too wet, and more water if it looks too dry'
Probably not very helpful! :rotfl: Best advice is either to pop over to old style board, or get a book on basic bread making from the library and keep practicing a simple one til you get it right, then expand a bit! And a breadmaker is a godsend in this house - much as I love making it by hand, right now I just don't.
(sorry, probably not very useful!)0 -
lol maybe not useful but incredibly funny to read, thank you for cheering me up.0

I've been buying the flour there as I can't stand it when I've used Asda flour. Thats a crazy price hike, but if flour has gone up that much so will ready made bread so should stay in proportion, I knwo that is no help on a budget though.
QD is not always that cheap. I'm going with buying what is on offer rather than on my list in some respects, so if I wanted certain cereals I would swap. OK, it means that sometimes we eat the same stuff for a few months, but it helps the budget along!0 -
Really need to put the shopping away, but really can't be bothered!!!0

Thanks for the heads up on the flour price Missymoo - I've popped to Asda this evening and stocked up on theirs still at the 50p a bag, and have also posted the info on the food shopping board.
