does it look the same as the picture provided on the
    auction?

Doesn't look like it, and on further inspection, the phone is dented, scratched and she quotes it as being in very good condition.

Maybe I could get Paypal to refund the claim on the basis of selling me a phone that is not the one described on the auction?
  • Playing Devil's advocate, the description states the phone is faulty. You took a chance, and can't fix it.

However she also states "no stratches" which I guess counts in your favour..

Nah, if the phone was as per description, I could have easily fixed it.

BUT this phone won't even start up, and yet she says that the screen is all funny which means that it was working. I think whoever it is, repairs phones, puts together the parts that don't work, and sells them pretending not to know what is wrong. And considering that they must have plenty of non-working phones lying about, I could easily have received the wrong one. And I think I am quite right as the IMEI numbers on the phone and the outer box cover are totally seperate.

The item was special delivery, and I did receive an e-mail from her on the 08/09 telling me that she had posted the phone out. So the phone should have been with me on the 09/09.
Actually to be pedantic for a minute, a special delivery parcel sent on a Friday is not guaranteed to arrive on a Saturday. The Post office will only guarantee "next working day" delivery that being a Monday, although we have found that most of the parcels we have sent on a Friday are delivered on a Saturday. You can I think pay extra for a Saturday delivery.

That doesn't help you or the fact the seller is not quite telling the truth about the day is was posted though. Sorry!!
  • Sorry to thread hijack but as you seem to know about repairing D500s, can I ask a quick question? I replaced the casing on one that I have recently, fitted it all back together, but now the speaker doesn't work. It's all connected up fine as far as I can see, and everything else works fine but there's just no sound, any ideas?

If it was working fine before, then its probably a loose flex connection. Remove the flex and refit it, as the connections have to be solid. You have to make sure the flex ends are pushed right into the flex connector slots, and don't forget to clip down flex cable with the black wedges on the flex connector slots. Be careful though, as its very easy to damage the flex cable.

Another possibility is that you might have shorted out one of the ICs while changing, but give the above a go. If that doesn't work, the problem is very much a circuit problem or you might have damaged the flex while changing. Have a look at the flex for any breaks.

There can be plenty of causes for this. Flashing the phone may work it again.

If all fails, you are better off getting hold of a professional repair service. They have usually got the right equipment to quickly check and correct faults.

the ONLY line of action you can take here is if the phone is severly scratched / dented, etc

it says 'good condition' which can be interpreted as 'used a bit'

otherwise it's tough luck, you bought a broken phone, you got a broken phone, I certainly wouldn't harass the seller if the phone was in otherwise good condition, i'd just go 'ho-hum, lets re-list on ebay and take a small loss'
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I am going to wait and see what the seller has to say as I am absolutely certain this is not the phone advertised. My own samsung d500 which I have used for a while is in much better condition than this, and I would at most call that "Good condition", but quoting a dented, scratched & cracked phone as " .. in great condition with no scratches .. " is just a plain lie.
  • Thanks for taking the trouble to answer my "flex" question dagger-meerkat. Good luck with Paypal - I'm on your side!
  • As expected, she's put the blame on me telling paypal that since I can't repair the phone, I have switched the phone for another battered one. What happened to honesty and truth, and I can't even prove that this is her phone. Only thing I can do is leave negative feedback, and from the looks of it, sounds like she is going to do the same despite having received immediate payment.

Is there anything I can do, she's obviously one big liar and she had this all planned through. I don't think I am going to win this one.

It seems I can only leave negative feedback
