I did once have to go into M&S after one of their food adverts. It was steak followed by chocolate pudding. The steak cost £10.00 for a 3 inch circle, so I didnt buy that. I did buy the chocolate pudding but that wasn't particularly impressive (and much too small):o:o:o
I haven't done it since, and as a few others have said, I wouldn't use Go Compare or Webuyanycar on principle.Don't Panic - and carry a towel

Me too. Whilst reading this during an ad break with the sound muted a yogurt ad came on. Did the vision of a cow that wanted to be a horse running on the beach make me go out and buy their yogurt, no, the big fridge with a bloody great big sign saying 5 for £1 made me buy their yogurtunholyangel wrote: »I dont know about anyone else, but i have yet to buy a product based solely on adverts. In fact a sign like that would have made me buy anybody's yogurt not just theirs so several thousand £s wasted when a big piece of cardboard would do with the added bonus of not interupting my TV enjoyment. 0 -
oh I'm so glad that you all agree and i'm not going mad!
These people that make these adverts have got to know that it annoys people and whilst it does stay stuck in your head for AGES, we are therefore less likely to use their companies or products! i wonder if they get annoyed by their own adverts?
I also hate dubbed adverts! The one that springs to mind most is "mmmmm fresh" (febreeze!) I'm assuming they use actors that dont speak english or whatever as its cheaper?0 -
They make one advert and show it in lots of different counties with the language of that country dubbed over the top. Seems rather obvious doesn't it?Tinkerbell_Lily wrote: »I also hate dubbed adverts! The one that springs to mind most is "mmmmm fresh" (febreeze!) "Actors that don't speak English because it's cheaper..." :rotfl:

Not to me it dosen't!
Mind you, I have just had a baby and am not the brightest at the min!
I Just meant that they made the adverts in different countries as it was cheaper!
But how does that work then? There's a Nuotregena advert with Vanessa whatsherface who's American but its dubbed and her mouth dosent move to what she's saying even though she's speaking english!?!?!0 -

?
Hmmmmm. They've been making advert for decades. But you say that they don't work.
I wonder who is right.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
Lets all be sensible here for a minute.
You think if all these adverts you all claim don't encourage people to buy a product didn't work then companies would spend millions of pounds making and buying airtime for them?
Do you think webuyanycar's business taking off like a rocketship is caused by anything other than an annoying advert?

Mary the cow!!!!! I lurve her. Maybe I'm the adman's dream but this ad did make me want to buy a yoghurt. Thank you cows! Haha.
Also years ago, probably around 1994, there was a fab advert for 'Arthur's Choice Chunks' catfood with rave music and dancing cats. It made me laugh so much I wanted to buy some, despite not even having a cat!
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -
It's not the adverts as I haven't heard one for years. Thank God for the 'remote'. It's the bl**dy BBC 'jingle' that starts the news that bugs me. All those swirling red circles, or whatever they are supposed to be, they boast that it takes X seconds and they COUNT IT DOWN!! I've complained for at least 10 years to all agencies that it's humanly possible to think of about all the loud noise that the TV programs think we are so deaf as to have to listen to at levels far in excess for the ears to hear comfortably. Years ago the BBC would interrupt radio programs in the summer to ADVISE listeners not to have their radios on (in their gardens) too loud. The funny thing is is that in those far off days we were cognisant of the necessity of not annoying neighbours. Today noise seems to be fashionable.Tinkerbell_Lily wrote: »Hi all
Just need a quick rant to make me feel better! at 1st I thought it was my TV but after speaking to friends, i've discovered its not! why is it that some adverts are SOOOOO loud? After trying for 2 hours to try and get my teething little-un to sleep, she dropped off to be louldy awoken by the new 'Go Compare' (on the beach) advert 2 mins later! ugggghhhh! it scares me to death! WHY?
Also whilst i'm on the subject, the 'ice ice baby' woman on the Halifax adverts makes me want to punch her!
Argggh feel better now!
Sorry for moaning peeps but just need to get it off my chest! Right off back to rocking and TV on mute for me!0 -
