Those massively loud ads on tv are one of my pet hates as well. I really think the tv channels should be made to turn their volume down because it literally gives you a scare sometimes they are so loud.I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0

For instance, that advert where the car transforms into a robot who ice skates around on top of a frozen lake, doesnt make me want to buy a car. It makes me want to ice skate.
I detest most adverts. Although there are 2 or 3 companies who have continually funny adverts. Irn Bru for example.
And i know adverts are supposed to raise brand/product awareness aswell but although i might like Boots xmas advert from a few years ago (the one with the baby and the flamethrower), the only time i ever shop in boots is when i need a prescription filled - which can be years between.
Same, well the Barclaycard advert just makes me want to ride a rollercoaster! Especially the one in Vegas that goes by all the buildings lol0 -
It's not just ITV that does this, I have noticed that adverts on SKY also seem to increase in volume, and with ads every 10 minutes or so they are even more annoying - The best thing we ever did was invest in a Sky+ box which enables us to record the progs then skip past the ads at 30x. Sorry Sky but the number of ads shown and the volume just stinks.
I would praise the BBC for their advert free channels except they seem to spend a fair proportion of their time with adverts for their own programmes, along with (as Hadrian states) that repetitive 30 second 'jingle' to fill out for the lack of genuine programmes or real non-political news coverage.
And they think that we don't notice these things

You think if all these adverts you all claim don't encourage people to buy a product didn't work then companies would spend millions of pounds making and buying airtime for them?
Not at all. Some people are more impressionable than others. Some believe what the tv tells them (such as that actors playing roles are actually like their characters).
Fortunately i have more sense than that and i trust no one *insert shifty eyed smiley here*
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I don't think it's due to Sky tinkering with the volume themselves, it's the makers of the adverts that compress the dynamic range of the audio in the adverts to make them sound louder. Normal programming generally doesn't tend to get this treatment, which is why it goes from quiet to loud fairly quickly.
Generally, all material submitted for broadcast, including adverts, will have to comply with certain technical requirements, including picture and sound quality, in that it does not go over x dB for audio.
It's a bit like when you listen to a song off the radio vs. the CD - the radio will sound louder, because a lot of them apply a lot of dynamic range compression to the audio output to make it sound punchier and louder.0 -
How can anyone NOT like the meerkats????? Best ad on tv ever!!!!!0

I agree with the Go Compare and the We buy any car ones... immediate mute in this house... even if we are in the kitchen and have to dash through to do so!
It also annoys me that programs seem to have one actor shouting and another whispering - the other half sits with the remote in his hand constantly turning the volume up and down!
Also show theme tunes seem to be louder than necessary.. you've just watched 5 minutes of set up scenes and then get deafened by the opening titles!0 -

Plus those annoying ads for ways to pay your TV licence! If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
