Im glad this thread came about, I hate how the commercials go FULL BLAST when they come on, if you adjust the volume during, you find yourself turning the volume back up when they have gone.

I now instinctively MUTE it as soon as their is a break in the program.

the reason why its so loud according to ITV'S T & C'S is so the viewer can hear it whilst going to the kitchen to make a cup of tea :P

If I'm watching a commercial channel, I swap over to BBC in the breaks. I can't stand adverts. But then I'm notoriously ranty. :D

The other thing I do? Press pause on my PVR, go and make a cup of tea, have a quick bath, do the washing up or something similar then come back, watch the programme and fast forward through all the ads.

Have you ever noticed how channel hopping doesn't work either, be that all the channels put the commercials on at the same time ;)

I dont know about anyone else, but i have yet to buy a product based solely on adverts. I would only buy a product if it were cheap enough to tempt me to try it out or if friends/family gave it a good review.

For instance, that advert where the car transforms into a robot who ice skates around on top of a frozen lake, doesnt make me want to buy a car. It makes me want to ice skate.

I detest most adverts. Although there are 2 or 3 companies who have continually funny adverts. Irn Bru for example.

And i know adverts are supposed to raise brand/product awareness aswell but although i might like Boots xmas advert from a few years ago (the one with the baby and the flamethrower), the only time i ever shop in boots is when i need a prescription filled - which can be years between.

Yes! I notice that! That's why I only hop to BBC.

That's far too risky. Eastenders might be on.

My late father commented on how the TV companies put the volume up during adverts (or sometimes music in films) and down again for everything else, but I think I read somewhere that that's supposed to be against the broadcast rules, or were those scrapped in the hunt for ratings and profit?
