Cooked (or canned) beans or pulses with some sauted onion and garlic thrown in for flavour and some chopped-up small tomatoes and baked in the oven - topped off with mashed potato and a bit of grated cheese on top for flavour.

Thank you to everyone for coming up with helpful suggestions, much appreciated. I've had couscous tonight with a veggie stew type dish which was soft enough,.
Part of the problem is that I can just about open my mouth wide enough use a fork which is progress from yesterday! Anaesthetic is just wearing off so fingers crossed it'll have eased that a bit. Not quite yet at the stage of being willing to blend everything I eat - I think two of the three meals a day in blended form is plenty (unless I absolutely have to!)
I've got quite a lot of pulses, sweet potato and butternut squash in that I can turn into some of the ideas shared above, with mashed toppings. I'm intrigued by the bread and milk ideaThanks again

Sweet potato and butternut squash soup is delicious. I made this one last night and it's a firm favourite with us.

You may pick up other suitable ideas from Victorian food for convalescents. Personally - I'm now heading in the direction of adding natural Superfoods into everything going (ie things from natural food stores - ie the "real" health food stores) to make sure that I get all the nutrients I rather suspect tend to be missing from modern day diets...
Probably a thought to bear in mind - with the fact that you are more restricted than normal as to the range of foods you can currently have??0 -
Soup recipe looks lovely, i've got everything in for that apart from the marsala wine - any ideas of what to use instead, or maybe just replace with vegetable stock?
Interesting concept with the Victorian food. I think things tend to be so overly processed that a lot of nutrients are potentially lost.
I've been using a powder called Green Magic by Proto Col, that has lots of superfoods/nutrients: Hawaiian Spirulina, Broken Cell Wall Chinese Chlorella, Soya Lecithin, Barley Grass Juice, Wheat Grass Juice, Kamut, Rice Kernel Membrance Powder, High Pectin Apple Fibre, Icelandic Kelp, Wheat Sprouts, Nova Scotia Dulce, co Enzyme Q10, SOD w/catalase, Royal Jelly, Jerusalem Artichoke Powder, Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidus Bacterium (Lactose free). I've been adding it to my daily smoothie to try & boost my immune system (It doesn't taste as bad as it sounds!)0 -

"Bread & milk" was white crustless bread soaked in milk till soft then mashed up. The other old word for it was "sops". Barf.
Lentil soup or daal with rice sounds much nicer tbh. Stewed apples and bananas with custard? Rhubarb fool made with greek yoghurt? Porridge?Val.0
