    Dear Dr_Cuckoo
    your info is very valuable.
Have you tried it to withdraw cash at ATM abroad. How about the exchange rate that you were getting at that time. If it is like NW you should get the Visa whole sale exchange rate at the time of withdrawal.
Here is the link of Visa Whole sale exchange rate

If you could let us know your finding it will be great. I am about to apply to this BS as we have here one of their branch office. I will definitely also keep you all informed my experience one I have got those card as well as using it for spending abroad.

    Dear bubieyehyeh

I think you apply for the wrong current a/c e.g. cash account with Metro Bank. You should apply for standard current a/c if you want to use it mainly for spending and cash withdrawal abroad like has been done by benjus in this post

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2701011

But we have learnt it from your experience.

Just get their standard current account, which requires a credit check even if not apply for overdraft. The Cash account does not allow foreign withdrawls I was told.

It looks like thread is from a grumpy old peoples club.

Even the elderly would be more savy and positive, perhaps slow on there feet only.
You are either in or out for its benefits,if they suit you, watch it roll for euro transactions.

I was just pointing out that there is only one code for London: 020. The number itself is the eight digits following, which may start with 7, 8 or 3 (currently - will probably expand in the future). But all London numbers are simply '020' numbers ;)

They aren't London numbers, they're the new non-geographic numbers, and begin 03 (in this case, 0345 0808500).

Metro Bank says it will consider opening branches in all the country's major cities if the success of its first branch in central London is replicated by others to be opened in coming months. Chairman Anthony Thomson told Financial Mail that Metro could open for business in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham within the next three years. This is the first time the bank has talked about opening up outside the M25.

'Provided we continue to enjoy strong demand for our banking services, we will look to extend the radius of our branches away from London,' he said. 'That means looking outside the M25 and also in other city centres.'
    Elsewhere, they report:

The bank has never released figures for its targets, but pressed to give numbers on how many accounts had been opened at the High Holborn branch, Thomson said: 'We are talking about thousands.'

Established branches at existing banks have an average of between 5,000 and 10,000 customers each.
which struck me as quite a low number and if accurate, I can understand why other banks are closing branches..

Similarly, I doubt very much that most other banks have between 5,000 and 10,000 customers per branch.

As an example, Halifax has around 20 million customers (source) and around 800 branches (source), which makes an average of 25,000 customers per branch.

However, I'd expect that all their central London branches have significantly more than this.

Edit: Actually, I see from the first link that I gave that the ratios for Lloyds TSB give just 8,500 customers per branch - this could be why Lloyds are closing branches but Halifax are still opening new ones (at least, were until the credit crunch).
