I have more than enough for my needs BUT I really WANT a landrover

Little h - glad that my ramblings have struck a chord. I think that we spend too much time trying to be something we are not so I have decided to do an educating Rita job and rediscover the real me.
On that note, I have decided that skiing is really not for me. I think Mr C is a little disappointed. He has this inbuilt belief that if he enjoys something so much that everybody else will enjoy it too. He also believes that people really can be good at anything that they set their mind to learning. I, on the other hand, have a belief that whilst it is possible for us all to learn something it does not make it possible to actually be good at it. I am happy to say that I have tried, I am sure that I would improve if I were to continue. Would I ever be good at it? No. Would I ever enjoy it? No. And so I was strong, cancelled todays lesson and I am moving on! He understands but I think he was secretly harbouring a dream of us swooshing down the slopes together on New Years Eve! I am proud of myself for finally realising that I can admit that I dont enjoy something rather than trying to please other people and endure something. Life is too short to do things that are no fun.
So I have an unexpected free day. Off to plan and plot what to do with it.
I note that the £9 travelodge sale started today. Hmmm might have a browse over there. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Well done you cherisong! :T You tried, and it all worked out :T How delicious to have an unexpectedly free day! :T :T
(and thanks for the travelodge thing - I'm trying to get somewhere to stay with my mum in London in Feb/March, will mooch over and have a look!) :T0 -
Had a quick whizz, can't find anything under £29 for any night in Feb/March, and can't find two consecutive nights at that price (especially not at the weekend!) If we're going to be paying more I'd rather not stay in a travelodge
Good luck if you're more flexible than me though!
(going to log off now, it's just about starting to get light and there's chickens to feed and adventures to be had! :T)0 -
Yay to being you and not trying to be a people pleaser :j:T:j
I will own up now to only going skiing the onceAlthough I loved the actual skiing I wasn't so keen on the ski lifts and gondola's (have an issue with heights) and have never been able to find a ski resort that only has drag lifts :rotfl:
Enjoy your unexpected day off

Ahh well Maty, in that case you should try here Berchtesgadender Land. I have been learning in Grotshchen and they have a small area with a drag lift that only takes you about a half way up. It is beautiful here. Mr C is a skiier so he likes it but only for a swoosh. He prefers the much bigger areas.
Just realised yesterday, when talking to the instructor who used to work for the British Army, that this is where all of my uncles were stationed for many years and they loved it. Must have been so deep in my subconscious that I forgot but when he said something yesterday it hit me like a ton of bricks. Always wanted to go to see them when I was a kid but never allowed to travel on my own! Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Well done Cheri for having the courage to speak out and be true to yourself. Big hugs honey and enjoy spending the day pleasing yourself. xxNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0 -
OOooh, just had a quick google and it looks gorgeous
And I see you are only 20 minutes from Salzburg, I would love to go there.
My father was in the RAF and they did 3 tours of Germany before I was born and had very fond memories of it. Don't think they were ever that side though, seem to remember one being near the Danish border but can't remember where the other two were.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Maty, it is so beautiful here I cannot even begin to describe it. There are a few ski areas. All quite small but most have drag lifts and some have the cable cars that you could go up in too. Would be good for you here although, as I say the areas are quite small.
Went to Saltzburg on Tuesday for the day. 40 minutes on the bus (3 euros return with our tourist card). It is so beautiful it is on my list to do a long weekend in.
I came here partly for research as my plan is to move to Germany eventually (lifelong ambition). It is lovely here as I say but where we are staying has no British Tourists so speaking at least a little German is a must. There are a few Americans (Hitlers Nest/Third Reich Headquarters etc) but I love that there are few British Tourists to bring it down. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Hi Cherisong - I too am glad that you've found your mojo and decided what you want to do on your own terms. Several members of my family have holidayed where you are - its fantastic scenery round there, I've seen the pictures! I'd definitely go to the Hitler's Nest thing, it sounds very weird. And I went to Salzburg as a teenager, it was brilliant! Very strong coffee
tho it might seem normal nowadays.
Hope you're still having a great time. And I hope your whole 2011 is just as much a journey of enjoyable discovery as this one has been.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
