Oh I am so excited. OH arrived home tonight with the sewing machine from my friend. Now all I need to do is get organised and start on my projects. If only I can remember how to use it.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. I always forget how to thread them!
Maybe you could use the flat as a holiday let rather than a full let?0 -
Hi Pippa, yes thats the bit I get confuzzled by. I had thought about holiday let but OH seems to think it would be too much hassle whereas I think it would earn us more money. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. So is it in a tourist area, business area or anywhere else that short term rental would be good? Is there a university where visit
ing tutor types would need a room?0 -
That would be a yes to all of those questions. It is in Aberystwyth town centre. 10 minutes walk to the beach - lots of touristy things going on. Across the road from the new Welsh Government Building (500 new staff) and County Council Buildings. There is a University and Teaching Hospital all within walking distance. I bought it with a view to renting it out. It is a new build so not much to do on it. We had an oak floor laid which meant taking the skirts off and then paint completely repainting. We have done it quite slowly (I think to be honest I love it so much that I am quite happy to take my time until things get to the point where I have no options) Also (as I said in my first post) the mortgage company played silly beggars which left me having to draw money on credit cards or lose the flat and still have to pay 10% of the value for breach of contract. So that meant it has taken time for me to get the money together to buy the new furniture that is required to rent it out. I am nearly there. I do intend to be a bit picky about who I rent it to though as it is "high end" both in the build and what I have done with it so far and so I dont want young students in there but I would consider mature students and would ideally prefer a professional. I am not too worried about being able to get a tenant because I know that it will go quite quickly once I put it with an agent. I must admit to begrudging the fee they charge though. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Another productive weekend slowly merges into a long working week. Hopefully it will be as productive as the weekend which saw lots of little jobs finally being crossed off the list. The weather was so beautiful which meant that I could get out into the garden and paint the new fence which turned into the colour of Dale Winton pretty quickly. So fencing now completed I need to turn my attention to the garden itself. However with the impending ending of contract for OH and holidays looming the digger is a definite non starter.
OH had a reprieve and is now working for a few more weeks meaning that the pressure is off for the holiday. However finding a doggy hotel for Moo is proving a little more difficult. The lady who was all set to move for the duration of the holidays contacted me at the weekend and unfortunately cannot now commit as her father has taken seriously ill. Why is it that other people who advertise themselves on the web never answer their phones and then never return answerphone messages?
Need to sit down later today and make an action plan of things that need to be done for the holiday, including how to make the extra funds required. Ebay is a non starter as I spent the weekend rooting out stuff but I have decluttered to the enth (sp) degree and so have nothing either worth ebaying or that I wish to part with. Strange how that makes me feel, I have always been one for minimalism but I think that I am taking it to extremes now.
Right the sky is blue, the wind has died down and the forest beckons. Then, unfortunately, the office. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Glad you've got your fencing installed cherisong! Does that make things easier with Moo and people coming to look after him? Als hooray for an extra few weeks at work for OH (even if you were looking forward to having him home!) These things often swing both ways and have good and bad points, don't they? Any luck yet on sorting out someone to sit for Moo? If I wasn't already invading someone else's house to look after beasties I'd offer to come and do it myself!
We always go on holiday for Christmas and New Year these days, absolutely love it
No useful ideas on the extra cash sorryHave you looked at the up your income board? (I'm sure you have!) Have you worked out how much extra you'll need yet?

Thanks Cheery, yes it makes things a little easier with Moo but the problem at Christmas is that people dont really want to live away from home over Christmas. It will be sorted soon I am sure. Thanks for the offer it was lovely of you.
Yes OH has worked out how he can contribute over the coming months just on the next few wages so all is good there and I am very much a positive thinker and always try to focus on the positives. I would love him to be home but sometimes the best things in life have to be worked for dont they?
I have looked over on the up your income board, but some of the things are so timeconsuming for so little money. I just got a crowdology survey that they are going to pay a whopping £1.52 for - its a 20 minute survey. I think that my 20 minutes could be put to much better use so I have passed on that one. I know this doesnt sound very MSE but, having lost a few friends and parents at a young age I also have the sense that I need to live my life and always focusing on earning money (tiny amounts) can become all consuming and depressing.
Right I am running late for a meeting which will earn me lots of money so off I go.

Good point re the small amounts of time - that's why I decided to give up on taste radar
And good on you for being positive.
Don't necessarily rule out people wanting to be at home at Christmas. Me and Mr Daffs like to go away - hired little cottages by the sea for the first two years, then had a year at home, then a lovely MSE-er offered us her house while she went awayWe said yes, of course, but then couldn't get there because of the snow
so another year at home. Same lovely person offered again this year - we have indeed jumped at the chance and will be going snow or otherwise! :j :j : Soooooo much looking forward to it! :j :j
So, working on the law of averages, there's got to be another few folk in the world out there like me, right?? (there's not a dog involved in my case, so I do realise it's not quite the same!). Not quite sure how you go about finding someone - and there's a certain amount of trust involved... But apply that positive thinking brain of yours, and I'm sure something will turn up! :T0
