Pah to brakes on cars! Turns out that the strange scraping sound (developed after having to slam on to avoid the kamikaze cyclist who decided to freewheel down the hill, whizz across the crossroads which, incidentally, happens to cross the main road heading into town and at that junction is 50 miles an hour at just the moment I was tootling along to town to buy more Plastikote spray for my ottoman. Not only did he have no headgear but no lights either. Well you can imagine the feeling as Moo came flying over the seat, the cyclist did a rather spectacular dismount over his handlebars, the car behind me screeched to a halt and all I could see in front of me was two scared eyes looking right into the windscreen. He was fine, luckily.) anyway I digress, the scraping sound and resulting garage bill for £170 was because the brakes had seized. Cant blame it all on mad cyclist as there were other things wrong. Which seems odd as I just had new brakes fitted not more than 6 months ago at Kwik Fit. I feel a telephone call coming on.
So there goes the cost of the ferry at Christmas which means that I now have to add that to the daily money making amount which equates to a further £1.76 per day.

74 days to go and need to make £5.39 per day - which is doable as I have done it before. However my reserves for ebay are seriously depleted so I need to think of other ways to make some money.
Heading over to the make £10 a day challenge, as recommended by Cheery.

On the positive side the sun is shining. I am on a late start in work because I have a meeting in Pembrokeshire and I have a shiny hire car sitting in the drive waiting for the drive of its life. Now I think that I deserve to have a good selection of music on the way, so should I go for my Michael Buble collection or stick with my usual Radio 3 contributions. Decisions, decisions.

My friend is in love with Michael Bubble as my dear hubby calls him! She was 12 rows from the front at one of his concerts last week :happylove

Def go back to Kwik Fit - they may even argue that you should have gone back to them but you should get compensation against the cost. I think they have a deal where its free brakes for as long as you own the car. I would never go to them but then I do all my brakes myself.

Wow, you do them yourself? I wish I was that interested in cars. My friend used to work for NTS, she was the only girl there so she did an evening course in mechanics without telling them. One day somebody came in with a problem, they were all looking under the bonnet trying to figure it out, she walked out, said "oh yes its the head gasket you need to .........blah blah blah"and they were amazed.. To this day she says that it was more satisfying than the best sex she has ever had :rotfl::rotfl: Not sure that would do it for me personally but I see where she is coming from. I may give them a call.

Oops just realised how that sounded, I dont want the most satisfying experience or anything, erm where is that shovel.......................

Why is it that when anybody else is awake at 5am they think that everybody else should be. Some berk parked his van right outside my house lights ablaze, music blaring, engine revving and had no inclination to turn it off whilst he was waiting for "Mr Fox" next door to come out and get into it. Thanks to the rude awakening and a distinct inability to be able to rejoin the land of the snoozing happiness I have completed 3 lightspeed surveys, 2 crowdology surveys, sent off an email my contacts begging for football shirts and attempted to find the non existent surveys on one poll which I seem to be missing lately. It seems beyond my comprehension that I will ever get to £40 for onepoll as I have been at it now for 7 months and still only have £6.80.

    Plans for today -
workwise are to travel to a little town over in Carmarthen to meet my boss where we will be discussing my performance over the last 12 months and setting my targets for the next 12 months. Oh deep joy. The good thing about this is that I have my eye on a lovely little sideboard and 1920s suite that will look perfect in my flat and it just so happens that they are both being sold by a shop in the exact town that I am heading to. At the moment they are going of just £1 each. If, when I have wandered into the shop, I like them I will be placing my bid when I arrive home as they both end this evening. How is that for timing and I didnt even ask the universe.
Homewise shopping list written, meal plans sorted for the next two weeks so on the way home I will be stopping off at Lidl and completing the basics shopping and getting in vegetables for the week. I might even have a look at buying the ingredients for the christmas cake that I have intentions of baking. I plan to do this every year and most years I get sidetracked by life. I must also look up a recipe for mincemeat.

Ladies and gentlemen ... drum roll please.....I give you Alcoholic Vegetarian Mincemeat!

1lb mixed dried fruit 4ozs melted butter (not margarine... you have to be decadent occasionally)
4ozs cooking apples - peeled and grated (weight when prepared)
    4ozs brown sugar
    2-4 ozs blanched chopped almonds
    4ozs glace cherries
    4ozs chopped candied peel
    1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
    1 teaspoon grated orange rind
    2 tablespoons lemon juice
    1 teaspoon mixed spice
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
    4 tablespoons Cointreau

Mix the ingredients thoroughly. Blitz in food processor if you don't like it chunky. Put in clean, dry jars (press firmly into place to avoid having big air bubbles in the jar) and seal firmly (I wash them, allow them to dry, and then put into hot oven for five minutes to sterilise them). Keep in a cool, dry place.
Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.50

Love the sound of the girl showing the lads up.

I own a highly modified car and I can do mechanics, fit body kits, do fibre glass builds for sound systems, retrim interiors and spray, although I try to avoid painting cars as you need everywhere to be so clean.

I do my own brakes, servicing, fit certain aftermarket electronics, spark plugs etc. Plus other people's when they turn up with the bits. Its very funny when we have the car out somewhere and they start asking hubby about the car and how you fit bits and pieces or who did that build - he just points at me and watches their jaws hit the floor :D.

Have you sorted the flat to be a rental?

Hey Pippa, you sound just like my friend. It must be a great thing to be able to do your own brakes and everything. Mechanics has never really interested me personally but I can see the appeal

No Miss I havent sorted the flat out yet. OH got a reprieve at the last moment, so they asked him today if he would mind very much staying on for at least a few weeks and they are trying to get some funding for a project that they want him to lead on :) Now whilst I am pleased from the money angle I have to admit to being a little disappointed that he will still only be around at weekends. He arrived home just about 2 hours agon and is now fast asleep next to me. The driving is getting him down I think. Anyway, there goes him painting the bedroom in the flat next week. I cant decide if its worth investing in a painter. I can paint but I want it to be a proper job not the botched effort that I would make. I got a shock today when the agent said that they want a £300 finders fee! Now that wouldnt be so bad if I knew that they had to advertise and look for somebody but I happen to know that they have a list as long as your arm waiting for something as they have been ringing me over the last few months asking if it is ready to rent out. I have also had family coming up for the summer so they have been staying there so it has been handy. It will be done as soon as the timing is right. (or we cant make ends meet)
