I certainly do not, I couldn't give a fart what anybody thinks, I never take any notice of cards held by others.

I think the point is that some people associate the Solo or Electron cards with having a "poorer" credit rating than others. But people also have Electron cards to try and beat the airlines' high fees, so there are other valid reasons for possessing and using such cards.

I have an Ulster Bank Gold Card which I use solely for its free extended warranty on electrical appliances. And I admit that when I pull it out in the shop, I feel just a *tiny* little bit like "look at me look at me!" Even though the gold card isn't a lot harder to get than other credit cards.

Normally though I use my standard Halifax credit card for its stoozing ability (0% on purchases). I'm not going to use a card just because of how it looks. In fact, I often don't use my Lloyds TSB debit card because I like the London 2012 logo on it and I don't want it to get scratched or retained by the ATM! Which it did once... grrr.

Maybe so, but I'd hazard a guess that the vast majority of people have no idea that Solo/Electron cards are "lesser" cards, then another larger proportion couldn't care less/know there are other reasons of getting one, then a fraction of a percentage of people look down on them. Plus who examines what cards people are using anyway? The only time I've ever noticed is when I'm the one actually serving them - and I really couldn't care less as long as it works.

I cannot stand the Lloyds TSB Olympics Debit Card, the whole idea of me joining their bank, was to obtain a Debit Card with a Black Horse on it, some three or more cards later, and still no Black Horse, it would seem that this filly has left by the back stable door, and replaced what once was a lovely card, with something very boring indeed!:(

I started reading this thread becuase I quite simply couldnt understand what it was about. It took a few attempts at reading the opening post just to decrypt what the OP was saying!

I just dont understand how text speak has survived. Any phone made in the last 6-7 years has longer text message capability, multi texts, and predictive text on it so it's actually harder to write in text speak than it is to write a text normally.

Are people still walking round with those brick like Nokias?

And as I keep pointing out the BNP don't use the union jack, they use the St George's Cross.

I don't know why you keep pointing that out, because it's simply wrong.

    http://bnp.org.uk/

Count the number of St George's Crosses on that website, then count the number of Union Jacks.

    I rest my case.

I used to play "spot the shop that takes Electron" with a friend as it seemed many didn't, it seems to be getting better.

Shops really don't get to see your card these days as you stick it in yourself.

I have an o2 pre-paid Visa card so I have no worries now esp. online!!

I suppose I did feel a bit better with a Barclays Visa debit a few years ago!!

I remember the days when I would have applied for a card (and got it) just because I'd had a mailing for a pretty pink or leopard print card. This was years ago when people usually got accepted for anything.

I suppose it was a marketing ploy a few years ago - which I fell for. But when the card expires they usually send you a boring grey one (apart from Virgin, who continue to send me my pretty pink card!)

I suppose it's a psycological thing but I always use the card that I like the look of first- as long as interest rates are competitive (not that dim).

That being said I never look at the cards other people are using and if I had a card with a really great rate I wouldn't care what it was or what it looked like!

So having a card with the Union Jack on makes you racist? What sad times we live in.

So having a card with the Union Jack on makes you racist? What sad times we live in.

That's what happens when abhorrent, racist organisations hijack national symbols in the name of "patriotism", people begin to associate them with the organisation rather than whatever their particular symbolism used to be for.

Frankly, the phrase "I'm a patriot and..." has become synonymous with "I'm about to say something unpleasant and intolerant backed up by baseless claims that it's somehow ruining the country"

We've all seen the Union Jack, we all know what it is, if someone chooses to have it on their card, people are going to wonder why.

Not sure where I sit on this one really. I'm with the Cov BS, and their cards look quite nice. My Irish bank, Permanent TSB let you upload your own image for your debit card design, although I've not bothered with this. I guess you can have the nicest plastic going, but it wont get you past the embarrassment of "declined" - i guess it's what's inside that counts!
