Every time I see someone pull out a so-called "classy" black card from First Direct, all I can think is "Ha ha, you're not getting any interest on your current account! And possibly paying £10 a month for the privilege!" :p

Pretty much no one pays £10, and to be honest, I'd rather have no interest than bank elsewhere!
I applied for a Santander account 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything besides an email saying I was accepted! :)

i agree wey u, its important to pay off ur cards at the end of each month an if u cant dont buy it tha time, but the looks u get using a solo card in da place i live is unreal.

if u hav the money y not a nice card that accutally works in half the places u try to use it in ??

Are you sure you get the looks because of the card ;)

Don't know how long you have been out of school but you don't need money to get a "nice" card, just a good credit rating! (You don't even need a good credit rating so much these days.)

I have been using electron cards for years, granted not the last two or so but years prior to that and i can honestly say i never ever got told the words "sorry we don't accept that card" in store, over the phone or on the world wide web. (Well nowhere i shopped.)

I would not turn my nose up at an Visa electron card.

And your english is just terrible.

You might pay £10 for the privilege, but I pay enough into the account each month that I don't have to :T

That aside, the customer service they provide is simply superb. I'd rather have outstanding customer service than a few pennies of interest.

Agreed. I'm surprised they could spell BMW correctly in their username.

I must admit that I did used to get slightly embarrassed using SOLO, for two reasons:

    1) this was back in the day when SOLO wasn't that widely accepted, around 10 years ago

    2) I was an adult woman, earning a wage, and did not have a poor or sparse credit history

The lack of acceptance was the biggie, though. If I had one now, I wouldn't be fussed.

As for the actual appearance of the card I couldn't care less! When I've applied for credit cards over the years I've always opted for a funky one, but never got too attached because I always got re-issued standard designs when the cards expired or were lost.
