Permanent (Brazilian) Blow Dry

Once you have done it can you put some light waves/curls at the bottom of your hair or is always dead straight? I would like the top and up to my shoulders straight and then loose curls at the ends.
The treatment is a frizz reduction treatment rather than a straightening treatment, it just happens to be that as the composition is activated by heat, straighteners are used. Essentially anything that can be done with very hot straighteners can be used and the last time I got it done at the salon they were going to be doing flicks and curled under bits for a customer.
If you are doing it yourself it will be trial and error but mine only stays poker straight for a while and I can get body and waves in mine if I want to or poker straight if I use straighteners. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
Hi,
This is my first post so be nice to me
I have been reading through the posts regarding the brazlian hair straightening. I work in the cosmetic industry as a formulation scientist. Please be wary of these 'Brazlian treatments', many contain far above the safe levels of formaldehyde or are mixed up in the salon to contain formaldehyde (this may not be the case in the UK but certainly is in Brazil). Formulations that claim not to contain formaldehyde , do contain formaldehyde donors. Keratin alone cannot straighten the hair, there must be something else present to allow it to crossling to the hair keratin proteins. Some treatments, do contain 'milder' actives and are not so bad but the results are more temporary.
I just wanted to mention this as it is something I worked on and it is scary to think that people would put formaldehyde on their hair.
Be safe!

Hi kittycake I'm confused about it all as there are a lot of products that are formaldahyde free. Which would you recommend and what to look for?0 -
got mine done 155 plus 50 deposit- £200 but i have very long hair, 2 hours it took, very very straight and quite flat but very sleek, have to have it like this for 4 days(no clips, bobbles, kinks, water allowed on hair) then you can wash it and do whatever you want with it, i would recommend as its an intense treatment rather than a 'straightener' and will keep your hair glossy and frizz free for months. can have it curly, straight, wavy etc just the condition is spot on and no humidity frizz when on holiday!0

I was interested in this, having seen offers crop up on Groupon.
However it seems that it's actually pretty risky and banned in a few countries already. In america the "brazilian blowout" formulas are being studied by the FDA because some salon workers were getting ill (nosebleeds, irritated eyes etc.). It's meant to be free of formaldehyde but some tests have shown "Instead, it was determined that the product actually contains about 4.85 to 10.6 percent formaldehyde which is well beyond the levels that are considered to be safe for consumers. Since only levels that are below 0.2 percent are considered safe for consumers this product raises many health concerns, due to the fact formaldehyde is considered a carcinogen." so I assume it could be something very similar to formaldehyde, if the manufacturers are to be believed that it is formaldehyde free.
Needless to say this puts me off, I will instead embrace the frizz
