Yes Jamie it does, but if you cannot understand that your poxy £500 car can do 10's of thousands of £s of damage to other motorists and has to be insured accordingly, then there is no issue you are wrong, butt out or acept facts.

Stats mean nothing to the individual. And that means 72% of collisions that result in a death or a serious injury are caused or involved in by drivers over the age of 20 so why arent they paying the higher bills?

And again, ive never caused an accident nor been involved in one, and have never had to claim. Why are you assuming i have?

you are right that it doesnt take into account the individual, however you cant expect the insurance company to come around to EVERY driver in the country to get to know them to find out what they are like to offer personal tailor made insurance to that person.

no they have facts figures and statistics which show that a age group of just 3 years is involved in 28% of fatal and serious injury crashes whereas the rest of the 72% is take up over 60+ years worth of drivers

look at the graph on that page and guess what, insurance premiums follow that graph where it is most expensive at the start and keeps getting cheaper until you hit 60-69 years of age and then it starts to get more expensive again

and yes i dont know if you have had any acidents however if you have not you will get a no claims bonus which will decrease your insurance because of it

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

How do they know a youngster is g oing to crash into exactly £1000 worth of someone elses car? road barriers or kids in (what are reasonably cheap and most people have second hand) pushchairs?

Well if you put yourself down the side or in the back of my car thats probably a grands worth of damage straight off. If you take out highway signs or barriers I would guess it wouldnt take much to get to 1k in repair costs.

But why does what you might crash into have any relevance anyway? Im paying to insure my car, not the rest of Britain. Car insurance is to insure your car, not next doors front porch. anything you hit will be insured by somebody else anyway so its their problem.

If your young you have more chance of crashing. If you are young in a powerful car you are likely to crash it at higher speed or backwards out of control. I was young as well and people think they are fantastic drivers, its not until you are older you realise more about the hazards of the road and have a better ability to deal with them. Everyone, no matter how good a driver is always learning!

You have a higher chance of crashing when you are young whether that be into stationary obstacles or people (hopefully not the people)

How can they give that exact figure? I got a quote on a car worth £600 when i was 18, a quote for £1865. So how did they know that im going to damage £1265 of Britain over 12 months?

Its all about risk and its pretty efficiently calculated by the insurance companies.

I think all drivers are as likely as each other to have an accident, and people prejudicing the younger drivers should be made illegal, especially as despite only making up 7% of the cars on the road, they pay nearly a quarter of all car insurance bills in Britain, its the young drivers propping that industry up, so i think its about time old people started showing them a bit of respect and a bit of slack.

Nope young drivers will have more accidents that older age groups, year and years of data shows that. When young drivers start to act like adults driving what is in effect dangerous weapons they will get as much respect as any other age group. Unfortunately, they cause more deaths to others and themselves than is statistically acceptable and so will pay higher premiums as such.

Young drivers are certainly not propping up the insurance industry. This is a competitive market prices are generally driven down to a level that makes financial sense for both sides.

I think if they insist on charging a high premium, then if that young driver DOES NOT make a claim or have an accident, then the company should give 50% of the premium back.

Because if not then the company is profiteering from something people have no choice but to buy, which i think should be illegal, take car insurance out of private hands into state ownership with greater accountability to the people.

unfortunatly in a risk business they have to cover their costs, it would not be 'insurance' if the people who had the accidents then had to cough up more money to cover their accidents so that the people who dont can get their money back for not, yours and all the other drivers money is used to offset the costs the company has to pay out when another of their customers does have a accident. and you do get a 'reward' for not having a accident you get a discount in the form of a no claims bonus for the next years insurance

and companies are designed to make a profit, and people do have a choice, you can choose not to drive, ok so yes its not a great choice but it is still a choice and plenty of people dont even have the choice to drive because they can not afford to do so

You get that the next year. It's called no claims bonus!

Both are an if, ive never done either of those. So why should i have to pay for something i never did?

Because there is a risk that you will do it. And of course insurance pays for everyone elses bumps too, that is why people pay £500-£1000 even though costs of accidents are far in excess of this!

But ive never crashed into anything, ive been driving 9 years now and still havent had an accident. So why are you making out i have?

I didn't make out you have, check out the last post you quoted, I did state state statisticly you are likely too and with your attitude I'm convinved you WILL, go play.

    Prejudice, once again.

Not really I pay premiums as well, perhaps not as large as young drivers but there is a chance I may bump into someone.

The difference here is I have had my licence for 16 years and am statistically less likely than a young driver to do it, hence my insurance costs are less.

I dont really see a problem with that.
