Am i the only one who thinks insurance companies should be banned from charging more for the insurance than what the car is worth?
If you get a 500 quid car and a grand for insurance, that means the insurance company think you'll write it off twice a year.
I dont see how they can get away with that.
No they don't, they don't give a stuff about the value of your banger, its the potential damage it could cause to someone elses car, road barriers or kid in pushchair.0 -

not the only one who thinks it seems odd however what they have to take into account is not what the car is worth but also what the car is worth that they could drive into
basically young driver insurance is not sold to protect their car more that it is sold to cover the cost of the other drivers/peoples cars and propertyDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
^^ On this note I think it's unfair that old drivers who have become entirely incompetent behind the wheel and cause more accidents than they are involved in, should get cheaper insurance.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

they get those figures from years and years of data, it is not just a random figure made up out of thin air.
legally you have to have insurance to cover third parties not your own property hence why you can get third party only insurance - you dont have to have fully comp, why should the other persons insurance pay if it was you that caused the accident? if it is your fault it is your liability to pay and therefore your insurance that has to pay up
Despite making up only 10% of the licence holders in the UK young drivers are involved in 28% of all collisions that result in a death or a serious injury
(in these statistics, a young driver is defined as a holder of a full licence under the age of 20)

check that site out the stats show why younger drivers pay more,Drop a brand challenge

Ive never had an accident and have never had to claim on insurance. So the fact ive kept paying my insurance at higher price than you, means ive been bringing your premium DOWN!!!
If all the youngsters stopped paying insurance, the companies will want to make that money up somewhere, and will target you instead.
Unfortunately you (peer group), have more crashes than my (peer group), get a grasp on reality.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

I think all drivers are as likely as each other to have an accident, and people prejudicing the younger drivers should be made illegal, especially as despite only making up 7% of the cars on the road, they pay nearly a quarter of all car insurance bills in Britain, its the young drivers propping that industry up, so i think its about time old people started showing them a bit of respect and a bit of slack.
Insurance runs on statistics and until young drivers in general stop smashing cars up insurance has to be weighted accordingly.
Remember -"In 2007 40% of accidents where someone is killed or seriously injured were in cars driven by younger drivers" that can mean huge bills, and "1 in 5 new drivers has an accident within 6 months of passing their test". If you are paying out on that....
Insurance companies are like bookies, betting on you not having a smash or incident. The best postcodes and middle age folk have the best odds or in this case premiums, the young folk have the worst odds and worst premiums!
Everyone is as likely to get stabbed today but some people in some areas are going to be more at risk by nature. That is life and in driving younger drivers are the worst.0 -
