OT assessments round here are as rare as hens teeth, I've never had one but I think I'm pretty clued up about what my needs are, it's just I don't know what's about to help.

I'm moving to a new house soon and we have made sure that my room is as calm and comfortable as it can be as like you I spend a lot of time there, I'm already lucky enough to have a DAB radio (treat to myself from a final student loan payment last year) and my dad offered to pay half for this really expensive mattress that I wanted so I can pay my half off in full as he put it on his credit card, another worry lifted (was going to have to pay him back weekly for a year).

My list currently includes : grab rails for the bathroom, new hand rail for the stairs, pill boxes, new scooter bag, gel padded walking stick, kettle tipper, gym ball.. I think that's it.

Also my award is for two years :rotfl:
I'm really, really pleased to hear that you got your DLA award.:T

Fwiw, I had an OT assessment years ago when I lived in Bicester, and a right waste of time it was. Not had one since moving to MK (in 2002) but have bought myself, among other things, and in no particular order: wheelchair, mobility scooter (essential for dog-walking), 2 bar chairs - for kitchen and bedroom, picker-upper gadget, plastic jug for filling water filter/kettle, ring-pull puller gadget, wheaten bags, netbook (for going online lying on the sofa), Nintendo Wii with WiiFit+ package (idea of the gym scares me stoopid:eek:), folding walking sticks. I'm sure there's other stuff too, that I just use all the time and so take for granted that it's there. ;)

On a good note today, my little guest, Sidney has arrived. He remembered being here before, and has made himself completely at home.:T He's staying with me for 10 days. For those who don't know, he's a Miniature Schnauzer.:o

Thank you, not only am I over the moon that I actually got an award, I was gobsmacked to see that it was for what the CAB lady suggested I should be getting. I would have been delighted to get either on a low rate as any financial help is very much appreciated.

Thankfully I already have a mobility scooter, very essential for walking my dog. I'm very lucky to have been bought an ipad as a graduation present so that's what I use generally instead of a netbook (I agree, very useful) My arms (and general fitness) are very weak so although I've been considering getting a wheelchair it would have to be pushed by my mum and when we tried it at Disney it was almost impossible for her (luckily we went back and got the last scooter!) so I don't know if there's much point, or whether the wheelchairs there were just horrible and a better quality one would be easier for her, but either way she simply can't use all her energy trying to get me around as I need her the rest of the day to care for me!

Thank you so much for suggesting a Wii, I had thought about it a while ago but not seriously. Now i'm going to seriously consider it as it could be something to help improve my fitness. I have been reffered for a local gym and I'm not too fussed about looking a fool and people seeing me sweat etc but I might not feel able to get down there (even on my scooter) so I wouldn't be able to give myself an excuse not to exercise iykwim

    Ooooo yay for doggy friends!

    Time for breakfast :j
  • Glad you have a furry visitor lw. Repeat visits as well so you are obviously doing a fine job!
I have the best of both worlds. I have the cat, Little Lita and Dad has two Greyhounds; I get the best of them but don't have to walk them!

I'm in the proces of going to DLA Tribunal in March and am getting help from a Welfare Rights Officer. Just waiting for him to come and assess the strength of the evidence I have - something that's gonna be invaluable. An unsympathetic GP scuppered award first off, but I now have support from a GP who understands and looks at the bigger picture of how the symptoms affect me rather than just the symptoms per se.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

I received a letter from DLA telling me they've written to my GP. They are, imo, better off writing to one of my consultants. I'm not sure if my GP knows anything about the stuff (physical & mental health) that happened whilst in London.

And I don't know if my neurologist has written to my GP. Hopefully this time, the correct GP (ie, not the one I saw 3 years previously for an unrelated problem) will fill the form in.

  • Go and see the GP and explain how things are for you now, sh. That way it'll be fresh in their mind - and their notes - when they get the letter.

  • Jojo, I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you submit a welfare form to assist you in getting your new property? I'm just going through the process now.

  • ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHH Went to fill my weekly pill box and I have no tramadol and double amitriptyline. Someone along the chain right royally messed up, and as if my day tomorrow wasn't busy enough I now have to find time to fight with Boots and probably end up spending 2 hours in the hospital waiting for the out of hours doctor for some pain relief. Jeez!

... On the funny side I just got some gastro resistance pills and almost had a heart attack at the size of each blister capsule when I took them out of the packet, turns out it was mostly air and although they are large they are not horse tranquelizers (thank goodness)
