  • Sorry, I could rant for ages, these people make me so mad, but I think I'm just going to go to bed instead.

So much for that idea. I woke up to realise I hadn't put the cover on my scooter, feared the worst as apparently water damage is what caused the first problems I had with it, rushed (ok half stumbled, half shuffled) down stairs to find that my ace of a mum had put the cover on before she went to bed (hurrah!) but now I am left wide awake, goodness only knows when I'll get back to sleep :(

Eldest son is having massive problems with the cold and it hasn't actually been as cold here as other places. His hands are now permanently cold even with wearing gloves around the house and school and he is wearing a least two t shirts and a huge furry fleecy thing and is still complaining...I am wondering if this is all part of his EDS, anyone know?

The short answer to that, Sue, is yes. It would be, more or less.

The long answer... Raynaud's syndrome, which fits exactly with the hand symptoms you describe and brings a lot of temperature dysregulation with it, comes with HEDS nearly all the time, in my experience. All the other people I know who have an HEDS diagnosis have it, and I've got it, too - have had since I was 14. It's most common in young women, but if you have HEDS, the likelihood of having it as a young man shoots way up. Something to do with the blood vessels being pinched by all the dislocations, they get used to being pinched and it results in that particular circulation disorder - which is actually quite common outside of HEDS without the pinching part, but even more so with it, I think because of it.

  • Can Raynauds be just some extremities? My feet seem to be always freezing cold, but my hands are rarely cold in 'normal' conditions.

As far as I know it can. With some people it just affects their hands; with me it's hands, feet and nose, which in turn means the rest of me doesn't get as warm as it could.

My nose gets quite cold actually, now you mention it. It's no way as bad as my feet though. It takes a good 20 or 30 minutes for a hot water bottle to work on my feet, but when it does theyre usually ok for a while. I think my cold feet has more to do with not moving about much.

I'm pretty certain my mum has Raynauds though, she's always been cold for as long as I can remember. She's always holding her nose in a weird position because it's cold. She's a fairly active woman, but unless she is being extremely active (running, painting and diy etc) she is generally cold. Even taking the dog for a walk she wears really thick socks, walking boots, 3 under layers and a ski coat with leather gloves.. And that was before it got cold this past week or so.
  • hi all,
i hope you are all manageing ok with this cold & wet excuse of a week end, i was until i decided to drive upto shops, i managed to get a disabled bay, bit of a novelty on a sunday! thn as i`m getting back to the car ( in a wheelchair,) "why are you parked there, thats for `old` people, who cant walk far".
i pointed out the wheelchair as they `obviously` couldnt see it, then got told i couldn`t be disabled as i was the driver of the car! aparently im now going to be reported to `the blue badge people` on monday as i`m a fraud!
i`m still steaming! how dare people do this, i`m shaken by their attitude but if they had done this to some people that wouldn`t / couldn`t answer back, then they could have really upset them, needless to say i`m also thinking of phoneing the council monday as well, ( prob wont though as i`ll have cooled down by then!)
on a different note i have a 3 wheeled scooter that folds down to go in a car, anybody interested? northwest london, pm me if you want info etc,
i`m now going to have a cuppa and some chocolate that `him indoors` has brought over for me, i think he hopes it will stop me ranting, lol, ( prob help anyway)
    house keeper to >^..^<
i have rheumatoid arthritus, (its in charge at present):(

I actually had the opposite thing this week....elderly gentleman coming out of M&S and his car was parked on the double yellows with a blue badge, my car parked in a normal parking spot in the car park (just across the road). He saw me struggling to get up the steps with my crutch and then starting to walk across to the car park and says "Blimey, you look worse than me and I am the one with the blue badge!"

I didn't know whether to be embarrassed, annoyed or to see the funny side.....well, for a few seconds anyway but then saw the funny side to it.

My dad gets it all the time, he looks fairly normal when sitting in the car and with me having to do the driving for him recently for his hospital appointments, there have been tuts abounding, until he goes to get out of the car...then they can see why he has a blue badge as he really struggles to get out and get moving aided by a walking stick and appears quite frail.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I was driving into a disabled parking bay when an old dear in the bay next to me, for some strange reason, started angrily waving her blue badge at me, so I just held up my badge holder in her direction and smiled cos it had 2 blue badges in it (mine & hubby's)!
  • I'm not getting into the blue badge debate or it will take all night for you to read my post:rotfl:

Hope you are all doing ok. I had some good news last week my friend went for her 5 year check after having breast cancer and got the all clear :j:j She has been such a good friend to me and I am so happy for her:T

I feel the cold really badly (DH says I have no blood:rotfl:) I cant remember who mentioned it sorry but I have a slanket and its brilliant. I look completely ridiculous but at least I'm warm.

Quick question does anyone know of somewhere to get a nice stick, I looked at those glamstick things but they aren't really me think I'm too old for them:o
