I'm so cold at the moment, I'm wearing gloves indoors. Its supposed to go down to -3 in Ayr tonight. My 7.5 tog quilt so not warm enough.:(

My mum gets terribly cold, and used to always have trouble sleeping because of it, but a while ago she bought a lambs wool mattress topper and she doesn't even have a hot water bottle 90 percent of the time. They are very expensive and it might not provide the benefits that it has for my mum, but it's worth thinking about.

However, something much more affordable is getting a winter duvet! 13.5 tog duvets can be found fairly cheaply, I don't know what online grocery shopping you do but any of the major supermarkets will do their own cheap one which you can probably have delivered. As far as I remember, primark do fairly good value sets too if you can get someone to go for you.

Hot water bottles are a life saver too, they're ridiculously expensive in most places but it's about now that the pound shops and market stalls start selling them at reasonable prices.

I don't have personal experience with them, but slankets etc might be worth a try.

Thanks I shall look out for the mattress topper, it sounds really cozy. My brother has said I can borrow a thicker quilt but he's so busy that I only get to see him when he takes me to a hospital / dr's/ psychiatrist appointment. I really need to remember to remind him lol. The quilt I'm using at the moment is only 7.5 tog

I'm not sure a slanket would be any good as I'm quite tall. I must admit that I'm never dressed these days. Nightdress, fleece dressing gowns and socks are my normal dress items.

    Thanks

On a good day I can get showered, unfortunately they are few and far between at the moment so you better stand downwind of me. :p

Eldest son is having massive problems with the cold and it hasn't actually been as cold here as other places. His hands are now permanently cold even with wearing gloves around the house and school and he is wearing a least two t shirts and a huge furry fleecy thing and is still complaining...I am wondering if this is all part of his EDS, anyone know?

I was back up to the doctors today for my bloods...she took loads of the stuff! Unfortunately, the combination of having to fast (she was also checking for 'old' age things), lack of sleep and having the blood taken, left me with a very migrainy headache...I only just managed to pick the boys up and get to my parents who live fairly near the school before collapsing down on my parents couch in agony.

Thankfully, mum is used to me and my 'heads' and got the ibuprofen out, closed the curtains, put a blanket over me and just left me to get over the worse. At least this one was one of my better ones and I was able to function again fairly quickly compared to some, although I still have a little eek eek going on but at a level where I can pretty much ignore it.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I've started thinking that ive got arthritis or something as my fingers & wrists really hurt when i'm peeling or chopping vegetables.

It's almost feels like cramp but hurts for a couple of days after, my wrist even seems swollen afterwards.

I hate this cold weather as my back, ankles, knees, hips, elbows & shoulders ache so much, roll on spring.

I'm still feeling abit low after all the domestic problems of late so haven't been about much.

    Gentle hugs to everyone. :A
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

  • I just got my letter from ATOS telling me that I've got an appointment for my ESA medical. Bricking it!

I'm also annoyed for a number of reasons I won't go in to here, but sufice to say that they didn't take any notice of my requirements as requested expressly on the form.

Does anyone else have squeaky joints? I have Torticollis and have found that since a minor self-inflicted accident in June, I've had problems with one of my vertebrae squeaking.

If you think they haven't taken notice of your requirements, give them a call. I did and because of my agoraphobia I had my medical at home. Had to send a letter from my doctor.

Good luck with whatever happens, just be honest and you'll be fine. If they are stupid and don't listen to your ills then appeal :)

    Thanks

I have a moderate phone phobia so ringing them up isnt really an option, if I didn't have all the stress of the house move and this bloody virus then I might be able to force myself to do it but not in this situation. Also, that day is quite good as mum already has the day off work because of the house move (meaning it's not a hellish two hour very painful bus journey, just an hour in s comfortable car) but I think it's ridiculous that s specialist healthcare centre doesn't have parking, the nearest car park is over half a mile away, so it'll just be luck that we get an on street spot.

Sorry, I could rant for ages, these people make me so mad, but I think I'm just going to go to bed instead.
  • Well good luck and bed is a great place. Mine is calling me as well.
