I have to see people's face's to lip read them and a lot of people dont like being lip read for some reason, even one woman at my bank covers her mouth when she sees me approach the counter (and worse she is always on the lowered wheelchair friendly counter) and she keeps doing it despite knowing Im a deaf lip reader.

    Weird.

Have you considered asking for the manager to serve you everytime she does it? And when the manager comes to see why there is a huge queue building up in the bank, you tell them that their employee is covering their mouth, so you need someone who is not scared of deaf people to serve you?

ARGHHH! Just realised my last nose stud came out overnight - where is it????

The bank say that they have working hearing loops and that should be enough and it is enough for the DDA but hearing aids dont fix my ears, they just amplify and dampen the sounds and that together with lip reading mean I can use the banks counter service so long as the awful woman isnt their, the bank manager says she is embarrassed by her teeth but they are fine!

Im not looking at her or anyone elses teeth but the way they trunkate their words, lip reading is very difficult and relies on hearing a little bit, understanding what I have heard a little bit, lip reading a lot and at least 50% guess work in some situations but in general it works out for me in face to face situations.

I spend any time Im not in bed at peoples crotch hight and I have seen some awful sights of men with no under crackers on and their flys down  so any mouth is better than that!

I know where you're coming from, Sunnyone. Mr LW is very soft-spoken, and even with my hearing aid, and having been married to him for eight years, I still get on far better if I can see his face while he's speaking. I still sometimes have to extrapolate to get the full gist of what he's saying!:D

I know about being at crotch-height to everyone else, too; let's just say, sometimes you have to laugh or you'd cry!:o

Jojo did you find your missing nose-stud?:o

Hey everyone. Major relapsing at the moment. Not well at all. :(

Someone on another forum I'm on posted a link to a blog. It's called "Diary of a Benefit Scrounger" but the name is purely irony. It's the blog of a woman who is chronically ill and fights for the rights of those who are disabled. I was going to post it on the D&D board but I was worried I might get jumped over.:o

    http://diaryofabenefitscrounger.blogspot.com/

I have no vested interest in the site. Just a reader.:o

This post is particularly interesting: http://diaryofabenefitscrounger.blogspot.com/2011/10/we-all-know-someone-who-could-work-but_31.html

Certainly worth posting in a more prominent place, very wise words that some on mse would do well to remember when they are posting.

I'm not sure where though. :(

It doesn't belong on the Benefits board because it's more a discussion topic, but then I'd get eaten alive in DT where it most likely belongs. :(

Well got the results of my sleep test...no sleep apnea (relief for me, I had visions of losing my driving license).

Nope, the reason why I am tired all the time and why my sleep isn't great is stress and the sheer scale of the care duties I have. Oh well, it was good it was finally taken seriously and I was referred up but it came down to the same reason I have been told for many years.

Would have been nice to have had a quick fix though but there you go, she told me I need to try to take some time for myself and to think again about my determination to try to juggle working into the equation too, said my body and brain had enough to cope with and if I was not careful, I could end up like I did in 2005 with another complete breakdown, my body and mind is being pushed beyond its limits already.

It didn't help that middle son went into an aspergic rage again last night, mucho stress involved and a very stiff and painful body for me today.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Yes Sue, you need to take care of yourself! Although at least you haven't posted about jumping off furniture and hurting yourself for a while.

My Chromebook is broken and I feel lost without it. He was only 2 months old :( It's gone off today for a manufacturer's repair, because I learnt that Amazon do not care about their obligations under the DSR regulations and couldn't care less about their customers. So till it comes back I'm using my desktop which isn't as easy on my arthritis.

Nah, I've given up jumping off the furniture for a little while..it tended to hurt a wee bit! :rotfl:

Mind you, almost fell off the scales at the hospital when they were weighing me, blooming thing was wobbly and it threw my balance completely out (well that is my excuse and I am sticking to it!) :D

My problem with taking it easy is that if I take too easy and give my brain too much time to think and reflect, the dark thoughts start to intrude, so for my mental health, it is much better to keep my brain at 100mph to keep those thoughts out. I also can't sleep at all unless I cram as much stuff into my brain before trying to sleep...no falling asleep gently by the telly for me or slowing down into a relaxed state, I just can't switch off and go to sleep if I try to.
