  • lw I end up feeling a little lost when guests have gone iyswim. Not knowing what to do with myself. bz has been quiet on Facebook too and I think has some infection problems which are dragging her down. Think they have gone on for most of this year, poor thing. I'll tell her you were asking after her.

A little boost for me today - getting my haircut for first time in about a year for a fiver as a model @ T&G. Can't wait to get it done but not looking forward to the neck pain afterwards from those horrid baisins.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

    Hello all :j
Been a bit of a week so far..........chap came to clear rubbish from the garage Sunday (or was it Monday?) then again yesterday so now, thankfully all the c**p has gone.
Surplus flowerpots I put on freecycle also gone -relief :T Might actually be able to work out where the new raised beds are going now.
Occupational Therapist called yesterday and measured up for a ramp for the back door.........about 10 days she said and she's chased the council up about out disability facility grant..........we're 5 from the top now it seems. Mind you will still take time even when we're at the top ........they come to asses work to be done, I complete another application form then wait for builders to arrive. But we're getting there.
As for OH...........well after a weekend of severe constipation and pain and getting out of hours doctor to call (gave him suppositories) that got sorted. Yesterday he went off for MRI scan on his back and last night spent most of the time being sick (plus trots !) So appt. with consultant for scan results and the rest had to be cancelled. I did ask if consultant could possibly phone us as we're both anxious as to whats actually wrong but not heard anything so far so expect he'll just have to wait for another appt. Mind you, consultant is pretty good so shouldn't have to wait long (I hope!) Sickness carried on all this morning..........he got up about 2pm.........such pain in his stomach..........I phoned surgery and GP says it sounds like a bug thats going round (isn't there always one?) and is giving him painkillers that dissolve and something that should stop the trots at least. Just hope that doesn't all lead to another bout of constipation. I'm fast coming to the conclusion that I'm not the best of ''nurses''.............so now hiding in computer room.........:)
He's got appt. for bone density scan tomorrow and threw himself into a panic when GP said if he's no better tomorrow he'll have a home visit. He doesn't want to miss another hospital appt. Hopefully it won't come to that and tomorrow is another day:)

Sorry I've waffled on and on...............:)

Hope you're all ok and coping with what life throws at you:)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Anyone heard from Big Zippy lately? Was thinking about her recently, and wondering how she's getting on.:o If you're lurking, Zipster, stick your head round the door and poke your tongue out, or something!:D
    Did someone shout me...? ;)

I was alerted by a mutual friend that I was missed, so thought I'd bob in and say hi :) I lurk on here far more than I post these days (but I am generally on MSE in one way or another every few days, so if you wanted to get hold of me LW you could always PM :)) and I do tend to have a marathon catch up session every few weeks (usually when I can't sleep )

Anyhoo...since I was here last.... (this may turn mammoth, I'm afraid)

I've got more diagnoses  and more tests up coming.

I was having some (more) pain so the docs sent me for a gynae scan and they found polycystic ovaries (which doesn't explain the pain, it's a by-the-by-have-a-kick-in-the-guts type of find), and the gynae has confirmed that I have PCOS (the syndrome that goes with it, which means it's likely I'll find it hard/er to get pregnant, and more chance of miscarriage if/when I do...a real kick in the balls when you've been waiting to be "sensible" and "financially responsible" to start trying for a family :o)

Piggy-backing on the PCOS is the newly found Impaired Glucose Tolerance - which is both in cahoots with PCOS and making it worse (the joys). For those that don't know, it's like a pre-diabetes, so I was overjoyed to find out about that one too

Anyway, as that didn't explain the pain and they can't do a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis and the gynae said I "ouched" when he (yes, HE...Asian hard to understand HE. I was unimpressed...I don't want anyone messing with my bits, but I'd rather it was an easy to understand lady!) pressed on/near my bladder, and then I've been repeatedly brewing some nasty kidney infections etc, I got sent to a urologist. Apparently he and the gynae are in cahoots and think that I have Interstatial Cystitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain...which frankly scares and p***es me off! So I'm awaiting dates for a kidney scan (to check for stones and the like) and then a scope into my bladder ((the idea of which horrifies me tbh!) to see what the lining of that is like and whether it's infected and all that).

If it's IC/CPP there's basically bu88er all they can do, barring regular pain meds and low dose antibiotics, from what I gather. And I'm supremely wazzed off that it's YET another thing to be "sentenced" with...iyswim

Other than that, I got an OT referral sorted, finally. After a smidge of faff I now have a fancy bath hoist, a bed lever thing, and a perching stool :D She offered me a toilet frame thing, but I loathe MILs so I sent that back (is it just me and my fat a$$ or are they really narrow??), and a falls pendant thingy, but I tend to have my mobile in my pocket whenever I move around the house so I said no to that too. Oh and there's some blokey coming out to see how we can put grabrails up in the bathroom (plasterboard wall) at some point.

We've bought a new bed too, with latex (cooler, draws the heat away from you, and more hypo-allergenic, or something, than memory foam, and easier to move on I think) in the top part of the mattress. It's devine :D

DLA appeal...still awaiting a Tribunal date, but I expect it to be closer to Autumn.

Soolin I'm very interested in getting a nice wheelchair. Preferably manual/self-propel, with a good weight allowance and a proper cushion and all that. Lightweight preferably. I was hoping I'd be able to get one "prescribed" but the OT said that even though she disagrees with it, and it drives her mental, in this area they restrict them to people who can't move around the home without one... I pointed out that people that bad are more likely to either get an eleccy one, or a fancy 'I live in my chair so it has to be super comfy' one, and whilst she agreed there's not much I can do.... so I think it's probably time I bit the bullet...

I could say the same about you mrs :p

But yep, I have more kidney infections again (doc should have lab analysis today (thur) or friday, so hopefully properly targeted abx this time -hopefully in time for the weekend so I don't end up seeing OOH doc again!), and tonsillitis back again (and no! I'm not having them out CWTA!). Second time in at most 2 months that I've had both of these...

  • That's really kind of you to do that Soolin.

bz/lw I said I would let bz know you were asking after her and then promptly forgot :o Soz. I did spend 3 hours (yes, 3 hours) having my haircut yesterday which has resulted in it being about 2 inches too short and I now have a cold neck!

I desperately need my hair cut but my neck is so painful I just can't build up the courage.

I've got my MRI booked though shortly so hopefully that will show something they can 'cure' at the moment they think it is a broken vertebre.

  • Soolin When I have my hair cut I take one of those longer wheat cushions with me and put it on the hard basin when they wash my hair. It doesn't make it painless, but it helps.
You have my sympathy about your neck. I broke a vertebra in my neck in a car accident when I was in my 20's and was in a hard adjustable collar on and off for almost a year. Unfortunately, no-one told me that years down the line I would end up with arthritis in my neck. If yours does turn out to be broken, I would bear this in mind when getting it treated so that you are aware this could be a possibility for the future and do everything you can to guard against it. I am not saying this WILL happen to you, but I do wish someone had warned me at the time.
In the meantime, I would suggest heat packs for pain relief and, for temporarily relief, a rolled up newspaper in a leg of tights can make a temporary collar for an hour or so which can really help relieve some of the pain.

Welcome back, Zippy! If it helps you any, Shopmobility Manchester are moving into selling wheelchairs etc., and they're actually selling them at brilliant prices. I plan on saving a good chunk of my compensation from moving towards one (like £4000 chairs at half that!), since I think my own PCT have the same issue WRT having to use a chair full-time in the house first - which seems rather ridiculous to me, since I actually organised my house so if I fall I have something to grab onto, everywhere...

    Also: yay, spam. :P
