Interesting to talk about lounges. I'm in a one bed flat (mentioned to the housing assistant about a bungalow with a garden. Said I wasn't eligible? ). Mine is 15 floors up in a high rise. Faces east and south. Previous walls were 90's peach with centre border. New walls are 90's country with cream and polka dots (done with a kitchen sponge) in chocolate and a border of chocolate (just plain) on the top. Windows have terracotta shalwar chemise fabric draped over them (though think one might need proper voile - it's too short ) and bamboo blinds as I really don't need curtains.... So much more light in south corner just from ditching the curtains even though it was always back...
East wall has small table for DAB radio and printer - then right below window = craft table. Then in the corner is a hifi (huge thing I got for £10 on wheels - old sony system) with wharfedale speakers next to it and DVD player on one of the speakers (was cheaper than buying a new CD player by about £50)....On the south wall is bookcases. In opposite diagonal corners are standard lamps (one really cheap, one off freecycle). Rat cage in front of bookcases. Big pine coffee table (1 yd square) with shelves in centre. Scraps of carpet gotten out of a skip/cheap stuck down over the worst of the threadbare carpet.
2 sofas...One 3 seater ( £5 charity shop other year - other about £20 - 2 seater)...One bookcase (another. I know. At one time I had 6 in the lounge). next to 2 seater sofa by door...
The lounge is not huge...tis chocca...
Bedroom on other hand just has the basics, a chair and the airer..

THE FURNITURE IS ALL BACK
(so I get to sleep in my bed tonight :j)
It's lovely the first night you get back into your bed.
I have organised for some help to move all my bedroom furniture around this weekend. Once that happens, I will be able to see how long my first ever sets of brand new curtains :j are - two sets as I have two windows in the bedroom - (and whether there will be enough over to cut off and use to make matching cushion covers). Don't have a choice but to have curtains in the upstairs of the house, but wouldn't have bothered if I had lived in a high rise - although if you think positively, facing east and south means you get quite a lot of daylight, together with quite a remarkable view - the view from my old flat was great, but falling down the stairs wasn't, but my house faces due south and gets flooded with sunlight for pretty much all day.
(BTW why not apply for rehousing and actually have the council department make the decision, rather than rely on someone else's opinion? It might be that you are eligible after all)
Once this is all done (and I have recovered from the ordeal), I am going to be looking in the shops the other end of town to see if I can find a sari fabric that will go well with duck egg blue curtains, to use as a bedspread, plus a couple of other throws. I probably should concentrate more on buying a carpet, as the floor is bare hardboard, but the 30 year old rug on it pretty much does the trick in the meantime; I shall carpet the stairs long before I get round to the bedroom.
I wouldn't say I'm completely settled yet, even though it's been six months now since moving, but I think I'm getting there - I was in the last place 17 years, after all. But it is the extra touches that make it feel like home, more than anything else.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Interesting to hear you say that JoJo. I've been in this house 2 months now and am really not settling and feeling terribly guilty as I realise how lucky I was to get it. I would never have chosen this house (it's just not "me") but it has loads of potential that I can do nothing about as I have to leave it as I found it iyswim. I don't like the area and it's about 25 miles away from where I consider "home" and where my family are.
I do realise it will take me some time to try to settle and that the move was very fast - a week's notice and at the same time as my DLA Tribunal.
To hear you are maybe starting to settle gives me a little hope.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

[whispers] Over Christmas, I couldn't help thinking that I wanted to go home.
When I went back into the area to shop in ALDI, even the smell of the air was different. But there was no way I could have managed another normal winter in the flat (you saw the photo of the bruises I got falling down those stairs), much less the winter we have just had. Spending a lot of time gardening, putting up pictures and adding some nice fabrics is the way I'm making it feel like a home. And it is getting there, so I am sure yours will too
Although, if you ever felt like knitting a blue/duck egg toned blanket to chuck over the bed, please let me know of your chargesI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I am sure I will settle in some way eventually, but knowing this is only a temporary place doesn't help.
I am passionate about knittiing, but am very much a novice, having been taught a couple of years ago by S/E (remember her?).
Have you thought about taking it up yourself? I have an instructional DVD I could send you. You know. With all this free time you haveI must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
Hmmm, I can sort of remember how to cast on and do stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl - or is it knit one, purl one?), but that was when I was about 10 and was always punctuated by my mother's shouts at how useless I was. Mind you, it would make a change from the amount of time I spend online...
I'd be able to do a load of squares in different colours that way, and join them up...and do it when I can't move anymore in the evenings....
Hmmmm...I wonder if the nearest charity shop has any needles......big, thick ones....
[tick tick tick goes the brain]
That would be incredibly kind of you, CWTA!

Somebody has messed up my tablets
I order them online via the doctors' website, then collect them from the pharmacy a few days later. I should have 150 30/500 co-codamol, but have ended up with 100 8/500 co-codamol.
I collected em before work and didn't check them before the pharmacy closed, and now they'll be closed for the whole weekend!Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Horrible day....feeling rather down in the dumps and completely peed off.
Why does nothing ever go right? We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
If you are happy to pm me your address, I'll stick it in the post after Easter. Kniting apparently creates theta waves in the brain identical to those shown when people meditate. It is very relaxing and you feel you are being productive also.
Anyone who knits is always very keen to encourage others in the hope they enjoy it also, so you would be very welcome! xxI must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0
