  • Sue - As the youngest is so bright I think that is every reason to look in to EOTAS because it is tailored to the child with the needs, the classes are smaller and if he is working at a higher level than his age he will be given appropriate work. I am a bit sceptical that the reason everyone is so keen to keep kids in mainstream education is because anything other than that is extremely expensive, but that's just me, it might actually be best for your sons.

I agree with you about the oldest, and I think it's perfectly natural to rebell against a diagnosis at that age, especially one so potentially debilitating.. And it really sucks about the middle sons DLA but I think you should re-apply when you're feeling a bit more settled as he has complex care needs and he may have been going through a good patch at that time but he's not in that place now and with GCSEs coming up it's not likely to be like that any time soon either (sorry to put a downer on things!) and I'm sure the extra money would help when buying the special underwear he wants/needs to feel comfortable etc etc - Also, he sounds very much like he has OCD. Has that ever been mentioned?

I really don't know how you do it, you're super mum!
  • Ok so another update on my housing situation -

I was told on the phone that I wouldn't be able to have housing which is designated for over 55's, so I went to a local discrimination organisation who I thought sorted it out for me, the advisor helped me with my application and the next day I handed it in to the main reception of the housing association only to be told yet again that there was no way I would be given a property for over 55's or over 60's. I got very upset and phoned my advisor, he was really great and said he would handle everything. Today I got a phone call from him to say that what I've been told is complete nonsense as he's just been on the phone to the head do-dar and they agreed that it would be age discrimination if they did that, but they don't and what I'd been told was incorrect!

So, to clarify, I will be assessed on an individual basis and if they deem me to need a property such as a bungalow I will be able to be housed there, no matter what age restrictions appear to be in place. I cannot be housed in places which say they are sheltered accomidation but I'm fine with that as I know I now have housing options. I'm sooooooooooooooooooooo happy! :j :rotfl: :T

Now I can see there there's going to be a fight about proving I need ground floor accomidation with level access shower facilities because I haven't had my social services assessment yet.. But that's something for another day!

Better news for you FP (excuse the shortening please), hope you get something soon.

Re OCD, it wouldn't surprise me to be honest.....I can get very OCD'ish, as can eldest. It's great fun going into shops, the whole lot of them will spend loads of time straightening all the stock on the shelves! But I put youngest and middle son down to their ASD rather than anything extra.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I'm upset.

Spoke with a friend on the phone last night (after getting Mr LW to call her, as I'm terrified of phones) and she asked me straight out if I have OCD.

Never been diagnosed with it, but it's made me wonder....

Hey ho, now I remember why I don't speak to folks on the phone......

I hope everyone on the thread is having as good a day as they can today.:o

I have always had OCD. Bad in my late teens but back with a force now. On a test, 12 plus is likely you have it. I scored 29.

That coupled with severe depression and anxiety, plus a dash of being agrophobic yesterday cost me my job of the last 11 years. At 62 it is a real blow. Mind you, I have a lot of time off but totally lacking in sympathy. Trying to work out our best options.

So sorry to hear this but maybe you are better off without an Employer like that.

I hope you soon sort out your options and find that life is not as bleak as you feared it would be. Take care.

    LW, ((((hugs))))

Thanks Morag. In honesty, I wouldn`t even bother being around except for the love of my life. The world in a way has me beaten. Got a good few quid in the bank and pension funds, But that is because of inheritances and feel ashamed of that. Just hate to be diagnosed with something really quite serious. However, it is not cancer. Got the push from my job, fair enough, can`t blame them. However , I am self employed and introduced old customers from another firm I worked for to them so they will still have the benefits of their custom, me, diddly squat. My poor wife works all the hours in a low paid job.

We were working on a phased retirement, now out of the window. 10,of thousands being paid into private pensions, up the Swanee. Endowments not worth a light. Well not sure how we will go from here. At least no mortgage.

Oh well. Guess it could be worse.
