So sorry to hear your sad news Soolin, my thoughts are with you.
I fell down the stairs again today, too busy thinking about how the duck would fit into my halogen oven and not concentrating on what my feet were doing (I have to think about my legs or they don't do what they are supposed to do) and didn't step down correctly meaning my foot only caught the edge of the stair and then slipped off leading me to fall and slide the rest of the way down (around 7 stairs).
The boys had to come and rescue me at the bottom and get me stood up again but I have managed to hurt my right shoulder (stuck my arm out against the wall to try to arrest the fall), my left wrist (held firm onto the bannister, again to arrest the fall) but most of all, my back as it got a fair whack on several stairs as I came down.
Not sure if I have done any further damage but my legs feel a little weaker than normal and more awkward than usual but that is probably just bruising and my back is even more painful than usual.
Kids thought it was funny though! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

SingleSue - I recommend Arnica gel for the bruising. I know what you mean about your limbs doing funny things if you don't think about where you're putting them, my whole knee joint twisted inwards while I was just standing on my crutches talking to someone today, the first I knew about it was a sharp breath taking pain, it was only when I put it in the correct position i realised the angle of rotation wasn't anywhere near 'normal'. I know it's hard to do, but please try and take it easy for the next few days.. although don't do complete rest, that's been proven to be just as bad for your joints.
I am very excited as I am going to see a friend in Glasgow on wednesday, it's a 6 hour train journey from me (near Cambridge). I have been practising on my crutches and my doctor has told me what I can up my meds to just for this one occasion so I think I'm as prepared as I can be, I'm still going to need weeks to get over it but I know it's going to be well worth it.0 -
Thanks FP, might ask mum if I can use some of hers....
No option of resting too much this week as it is half term...and I am planning on decorating the kitchen towards the end of the week wth the help (ok maybe hindrance) of the boys!We made it! What energy?:rotfl:
It was supposed to have been done a year ago, paint was all purchased and has just sat there.....so me, in one of my mad moments, decided it was time to do it when I had the help (hindrance) of the boys where they could do the real oomph stuff.
Hmmm....not sure the plan will work but just to get the ceiling done will be a major improvement. We made it! Can somebody please give me a kick up the bum when I next need to pick up a prescription....I forgot to pick it up on Monday and then ran out of tablets.
Come today trying to get a few (quite literally a few) items in the supermarket and the pain was so bad that people noticed (I can usually hide it), every step was absolutely excrutriating, my legs had a mind of their own again and were refusing to move when I wanted them to and it took me an age to finally make it back to my car parked not even 30 metres from the counter! We made it! I am currently trying out a new idea. I now sleep with a pillow between my legs as I sleep on my side. Actually, it's a cushion as I couldn't find any spare pillows. But it's ok coz it kinda matches the duvet cover. Last night I woke up with the cushion on my head but today I have had less back pain. I don't think it helps that I roll over quite a bit.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

As I grew through to a teenager I thought it was strange that I still had to 'cuddle' a bear at night, it was only when I went to uni and couldnt possible cuddle a bear that I switched to a pillow, I also started putting a pillow between my knees.. It was only a few months ago that I actually realised why I do it, it keeps my shoulders and hips/knees in place and resting the muscles which is far more comfortable!
I currently have 5 pillows on my bed, and there's just me sleeping in it. You should see my bed in the morning, in the worst cases my mum has to redo the whole bed as the sheets have come off, the duvet is all bunched in its self and the pillow cases have come off the pillows.. I don't know what the hell I do but I have found myself up side down with my head at the foot end a couple of times. I sometimes think putting a camera in my room at night would be so hilarious to watch back. God forbid I ever move in with a partner, they'd have a heck of a time at night if we had to sleep in the same bed :rotfl:
Anyway, what I meant to say was that I completely understand your situation and it can help a lot and it seems the worse you are the more you feel the benefit.0 -
I read it recently in a magazine and decided to try it. I swapped to a new mattress a few months ago (actually, probably nearer a year ago now) and that helped a bit.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
