  • We have been on StayWarm for years and currently we are paying around £92 per month I think, which is based upon a 3-bed semi (40yrs old dorma bungalow) and only my mother and I living here. We are classed as high users despite not owning things like Plasma TVs or tumble dryers and we keep the central heating radiators off most of the time, even in winter. Our dishwasher packed up 5yrs ago too. We use computers a lot but everything is monitored with an electricity useage device and the amount used is not that great.

I often wonder where StayWarm dream up their criteria for a high user...
  • Has anyone done their calculations again with usswitch. I think uswitch have put staywarms tariffs up and scottish power come top for me. I think the UK power tarrifs are not as accurate now still saying British Gas tarrif best.
I was making £40 saving via UKpowers checker but doing it via Uswitch tonight I could be saving over £500 over the next nearest, that of Scottish Power. I am paying £87 pounds a month for Gas and Electricity.
The worst are Utilita and Telecom plus both at over £1800 pound.
  • No one is saving since privatisation. I think Martin should get political now and start shouting louder for the pensioners. He made a brilliant point on a BBC interview even though that appearance was strangely highlighted on here for a him accidently giving the finger to us. I still can't believe we are not marching the streets over the number of deaths of pensioners from the cold over the 10 years New Labour have been in. It must be close to half a million, yet a temperate climate. Its supposed to be a scandal but every year the figures come out telling us another 30000 dead. Surely Martin could say something big on this and shame Brown publically who refuses to to nothing for us today. This has to be more important than Carol Vorderman adverts.

Where on earth do you get those figures from?

Have you not appreciated that all households with an over 60 year old get a Winter fuel Payment - was £200, now £250.

Good morning: My MIL is over 80 and will receive a £400 winter fuel payment which should cover her annual gas bill (my OH installed a Band A condensing combi for her 3 years ago, her maisonette has double glazing and the loft is insulated).

Perhaps if other older people had not take the proverbial and abused the StayWarm tariffs they would still be available at a more affordable level.

Perhaps if money wasn't wasted on unused rooms or bedrooms or during milder weather there would be money saved for when it's actually cold.

Perhaps if MoneySavingExpert.com did not exist we could have a universal transparent tariff and provide a genuine cross-subsidy or grant instead of hypocritical money grubbers who want the best for themselves and their grandparents but damn everyone else.

£250 is more than enough to pay half of six month's heating.

    WINTER FUEL
The allowance had been frozen since 2003, despite tens of thousands of winter deaths and rising bills.
    From the NPC website.

A free pdf there about state pensions.http://www.npcuk.org/briefings/Myths.pdf

Could Martin do a petition or a poll on the points made in that document
I bet you would get a lot more than 80,000 signing.
He got Carol Vorderman to think again maybe Gordon Brown who has betrayed the poorest.
