I joined Staywarm several years ago, & yes it has slowly increased in price.
At the moment I am paying £72.89 per month on an annual useage of:
Electricity 17,183
Gas 15461
I have compared this on one of the relevant multi choice sites @ the best supplier quoted was approx £95 per month DEARER than what I am currently paying.
I am single, in a 2 bedroom semi bungalow.
No way will I change from Staywarm!!

To ralphr
have you tried to cut down on the amount of elect you are using its due to high users like yourself that others suffer with price increase, how is a business expected to survive if people take advantage.
For everyone else as far as i am aware if your usage over the past 12 months has been in excess then you are offered the next 12 months at a more realistic price, why moan about it, it prob means you have had it cheap for the last 12months. How about just saying thank you for the last 12 months and change tariff if it will work out cheaper.0 -
My usage over the last twelve months according to Staywarm is:-
Electricity................7261Kwh
Gas.......................19238Kwh
They say I am a high user but by using some power saving measures I have cut usage from 2006 readings of
Elect.9348Kwh & gas 26561Kwh
so they dont seem to take much notice of the actuals. I'm sure that they want to get rid of Staywarm altogether and this is their way to do it.
When I queried the huge increase in monthly payments, they said the rates would be reduced in January and I should wait to see if I could find a cheaper supplier after that! Its now nearly March and E-on still haven't come out with a reduction:mad:
On the existing rates I can find a reduction of up to £354 a year by using a standard rate from NPower and lesser savings from others. Is it worth waiting for the comfort of Staywarm if their rates do come down? or do I switch now?
Have you got any of your old bills from 2004 dodo.
I looked back and was using considerably more gas then on much lower monthly rate. Yet this year I am using 8000 kWh less of gas than I used in figures from 2004. Yet they wish to increase again.
How the hell can they justify charging you a 55 % increase.0 -
Now is the best time to leave with the warmer weather coming, thats what I di this time last year as you are paying the £80 amonth all through the summer. I have saved at least £250 and probably more as my Staywarm would have increased in December last year
The above could be a useful tip.
Another posts asked about rates & caps. From my telecon to eon info in my case is as follows:
Liverpool Standard £113.59 pm 3ppl 3 bed house
Standard £100.54 pm 2ppl 3bed house
Mine £152.07 pm 3ppl 3bed house
Was told we had exceeded 3.3 MwHr p/a on Electric
Contract renewed in Feb2009
We were not told areas were geographic or which actual band we were in but last 12months Elec ca 4.8MwHr & Gas ca 23MwHr
I forgot to ask what cap limit is on gas. If we stay with staywarm and cut elec we may end up with the gas cap being broken.EON do not seem to have info on website but sure they will answer my enquirey about this. I will post that info in this thread when I get it.0 -

I have just had a telephone call from staywarm, their annual call to me before renewing the following years bill. I am registered severely disabled and in receipt of DLA
I live alone, a single pensioner who is severely disabled, needing power for a stairlift, walk in care power shower, special electric smoke detectors (because of the stairlift) charging point for my mobility scooter, emergency care alarm system, and electronic door entry system, besides the need to have a fan on 24/7 because I suffer from primary hiper hydrosis:
I am told that I am on the lowest payment, which is presently £80.00 per month, I was told that I will have an increase of £10 this being for the increase in fuel. all my state pension goes to staywarm each month.
however, I was also told that from next year, staywarm will be axing all special discounted rates for everyone who is disabled, and in receipt of DLA and other major benefits
this means that everyone will be on the same tariff:
how will I be able to afford these necessary essentials to assist me in my everday mobility ..?
does anyone kindly know if there is someone who could offer their help in this situation ..?
all kind help would be most gratefully appreciated
thanking you all so much0 -
I know I'm bumping an old thread but it's still a current topic, is it not?
My current monthly payment is £87.32 but not sure what my readings are - must get into that. I did a quick search and found a couple of places where I could - apparently - save almost £500 a year! Jeepers! Also known as "Flaglady" because I love using flags in church!0 -
Another tale of Staywarm woe. My renewal is due on 1 December and my monthly payment is set to increase by 39.76% for the coming year. Using E.on's estimates of my consumption (which, incidentally, are higher than my current actual usage), comparison websites give me a cheaper deal, both on variable and capped tariffs. Even E.on itself quotes a variable rate deal at £336 per annum less than my increased Staywarm rate!0

As I am 66 and last Feb moved to a new bungalow and didn't know what to expect int the way of gas and electricity bills, so I decided to use Staywarm. They charged me £77.44 per month, which I knew to be much more than I was previously paying but for peace of mind for the year that was ok. I rang them a couple of months ago to ask about my usage and was told I was using less than expected. My usage is 3400 electric and 6424 gas for the year. They have now sent me a new bill for £98.79 per month! I have rung them and said I will be switching, the operator said I will still be on the new tariff for a while if the switch doesn't go through before April when the next one is due to start. She was actually very helpful and switched me to Age uk at £67 per month and I can switch from that with no penalty at any time. I intend to do this as I can get my charges down to £59 per month paying a fixed price for a year. I appreciate I will now pay for what I use rather than not paying any more - or less! regardless of what I use, but how can they justify such a hike in price when I am a low user? Anyone else experienced anything like this?0

That's very interesting, apowain. I was wondering that only a few days ago. I intend to stay on this plan as long as I can. The peace of mind is worth every penny. Also known as "Flaglady" because I love using flags in church!0
