Thanks everyone for your replies!! @ Silk, I can't believe I forgot about eBay - thanks for having a search around for me. I've gone for what looks like the best option from there and it should arrive tomorrow. I am probably way more excited than is reasonable.0

Just happened to go into Currys this morning and although they didn't have the Carlton breadmaker, they did have the Kenwood for £14.95 (saving £45). You could try that.0

i noticed the kenwood one aswell but the space was empty for them0

We have visited two Currys stores and found the Carlton bread maker on display and on offer at £13.99.
In each store the Carlton was on display alongside the Logik model which as far as we could tell was an identical product apart from the name and of course the price.
In each store we were told that they had no stock and that the Carlton was now discontinued.
We pointed out that if that was the case then they did not require the display model and that we were prepared to purchase the display model.
In each store we were advised that we could not purchase the display model as they had none of the fittings.
On checking further the helpful staff in Cheltenham checked and we were advised that stock was available in Bristol, Chippenham and Bath stores.
We immediately returned home to book a bread maker at the Bristol store not wishing to drive the 90 mile round trip and find that they had sold the bread makers whilst we were in transit.
Although advertised at £13.99, they were not available mail order, fair enough, it was a good price and so we tried to book one and found that we were unable to do that either, despite the claim that we could.
Keeping the Carlton product on the shelf alongside the "new" Logik product when not available seems like a cynical way for Currys to make BREAD even if the customer can not.
Perhaps I am just chewed off that I missed this bargain.0 -
Went into the Torquay store this afternoon after work. Managed to snaffle the very last Carlton breadmaker they had in the shop! None left even under reserve.
I did tell the assistant that if there were no carltons I'd have a kenwood, but actually comparing the two, the carlton has far more functionality so I was doubly pleased there was one left.
Now, I just have to learn how to use it. I have no idea about even the basics of breadmaking so this is going to be real trial and error. Any hints/tips/advice/recipes greatly received (I know there is an index and I will be checking that out).
I also managed to pick up a Carlton slow cooker for £9.97! Been looking for one for ages so was very pleased.0 -
Woohooo, first loaf baked - mega success, mega tasty! :j
This below may help out the clueless (like i was/still am! lol)
* Bought a Hovis White bread mix for 60 odd pence from Asda, then dead easy, just cleaned the pan/paddle as instructed, added the mix, 350ml water and 25g butter, left it on 'basic' setting, 900g loaf, medium colour crust - 3 hours later et voila - super scrummy bread!!
The mixer paddle was cutely stuck in the loaf's bottom but the pokey thing took it out no worries..
Very chuffed!Now....onto the wholemeal mix.
Fab bargain without a doubt, and thanks again to all who have helped. Been a great read and a great experience as it was my first time

Just a heads up for anyone in the Isle of White. I called to check for stock as my mum has now decided she would like one after looking at mine. CS was very helpful, but said "I don't know why as it's no where near you but the system is showing that there is stock in the Isle of White". I had to laugh but it didn't really help me lol. This was as of 6.00 this evening.0

The mixer paddle always gets stuck in the bread once it's baked - no worries, just pull it out once the bread has cooled.
Don't forget it's there, and throw it away inside a stale loaf, like someone I know!
