Why do adults have to eat around supermarkets?

I am unsure what you are getting at ?

Well, what has transpired is that the sandwich eating haters don't actually have a problem with eating sandwiches in a supermarket. They actually think that the problem is that "chavs" (so, we're basing this entirely on appearance, nothing to do with social standing, as it would be rude to presume) are more likely to eat sandwiches whilst shopping. Those "chavs", when not eating sandwiches in the supermarket, are smoking weed and wasting the taxpayers money, probably spurring on teenage pregnancies all the while. There's little to no evidence behind this, but the Daily Mail has probably said something about it on the page with the heartwarming animal story on it.

The bulk of people using both of those supermarkets are wearing suits, and unless "chavs" have started wearing suits, there's a lot of people eating sandwiches in the supermarket who aren't "chavs".
why should people then think it is acceptable to wander around the store eating?

Because most of the population don't care, and find it perfectly acceptable.

....Not walking around the store in a rush whilst doing your shopping?

I'm not in a rush, I'm doing my shopping and eating a snack at the same time. It's the idiots sat down eating then shopping and feeling rushed off their feet I feel for.

I don't read the Daily Mail so have no idea what page has the heartwarming animal story on it! In fact I have given up on newspapers altogether as reading how the state of the country is getting worse and worse just depresses me...LOL

I am not sure I have ever said that 'sandwich eaters' "smoke weed and waste the taxpayers money, probably spurring on teenage pregnancies".....but I have said that people who have lower standards are more likely to indulge in such things....

As said previously i dont have a problem with people eating doing shopping although i dont do it myself.

After seeing how much it annoys most of you i may just well go to my local superstore buy the nicest biggest fattest sandwich there is on the shelf, open it up and start feeding myself.

Obviously as this is such a danger to others i shall wear asigj clearly telling people

    "WARNING
man eating nice big fat sandwich,
please for your own safety and
    wellbeing stand back.

Spillages may cause unsafe floor conditions
    may contain nuts, gluten, wheat.

This announcment has been brought to you
by the kind people on the MSE forums.

    You have been warned.

I feel sorry for people who feel they have no option but to eat food whatever it is, walking round a shop. Not enough hours in the day to sit with family or friends and eat a decent meal?

Would the people who eat in supermarkets go into River Island, or Next, or Monsoon, with a bag of chips? I don't think they would, they'd probably be asked to leave....

I feel sorry for the people who have to go shopping, feeling hungry all the while, making impulse buys due to the hunger, and get home 20 minutes later than they need to.

Couldn't agree more....quality of life is far more important to me than how 'fast' I can manage to do my chores and still eat enough to keep me alive.....

I have seen some of the stores you mention actually displaying signs asking people not to eat/drink instore....so sadly there must be a percentage of people that would walk in with a bag of chips.....Like I have said before though everyone draws a line - some will eat in a supermarket but not in Next...Some will not eat in either...and some will eat wherever they damn well please - just cause they can!!

I do think that supermarkets will stop this practice at some stage as most now sell clothes or bedding/towels/cushions...etc..
