That's expressly forbidden in the Highways Act 1835. You would be breaking the law to do so.

Now I think we all know that's not true. They didn't have supermarkets in 1835:p:D.

people should not need signs to tell them what is common sense or acceptable behaviour

I perform several common sense checks:
    1. Is it on fire? No, carry on.
    2. Will I get put in prison for this? No, carry on.
    3. Will anyone else end up injured? No, carry on.
    4. Would any other reasonable, logical person get offended by this. No carry on.
    5. The end.

And in any case, to get back on topic :o, it's just bad manners to wander around grazing like a cow chewing the cud!
    This^

It doesn't make me furious, I don't spend time worrying about it, it doesn't affect me directly. It's just plain bad manners. To me it's as poor as not saying 'thankyou' or 'Please', neither of those has an impact on me, it just isn't pleasant.

I've never allowed my children to graze on foodstuffs in supermarkets, I'm of the opinion that rewarding them for bad behaviour isn't terribly bright. I'm also terribly old-fashioned in that if I'm eating, even at home, I sit down. Or wait til I can. And I must be terribly quaint in that if I'm about to be served in a shop I neither start nattering on my mobile nor carry on listening to an mp3 player with both ears. But there are people that do all those things...

I AGREE WITH YOUR FIRST PARAGRAPH 100%

I think I was the first to post on this thread that giving treats to children to pacify them or bribe them is ridiculous - it just tells them that if they scream long enough or loud enough they will get what they want!

I must also be terribly old fashioned too (at the ripe old age of 39) as I wouldn't do any of the things you mention either, and am fully within my right to be 'peeved' at people that do not show others the same respect.

In the great scheme of things the items mentioned on this thread are not 'the end of the world'...but as stated before it is a slippery slope...

Just make sure he doesn't eat any apples before you've paid for them:rotfl:

It is a slippery rope, you're quite right. I'm sadly now a heroin addled small time thief and hobo, mugging old ladies to fund my filthy drug habit in between living in my cardboard box and murdering kittens. If only mum hadn't have let me eat those Farley's rusks in the trolley round Kwiksave. Things might have turned out a lot differently.

(I'm teasing of course, this thread has been a good laugh) :)

I nearly always eat my way around the supermarket with my son. I alway try thing to see if we will like. I also feed him healthy food like fruit and french bread so he does not want the crap they push. I see no problem with this. I only really eat fresh stuff and sometimes its no good. Supermarkets sell stuff that looks good but often tastes rubbish. I needs to be in season. To be honest its worrying you care? Who cares what anyone else does. I have only once had a woman and the checkout told me off. I just said I have done it for 10 years and I am not going to stop now.

Why can't people go around a supermarket without eating the goods, perhaps for the same reason people can't get on to an aircraft without needing the lavatory within 60 seconds - Breeding!
